I have two sons. 5.5 and 7.

7 year old is on a ttr50
5.5 is on a 50 atv and now after ridding the ttr wants one as well.

7 yo is fine on the 50 but could probably do to a larger bike.

So what do you guys see as the next size up from the ttr? I thought 110 or ktm 50sx?

We currently ride some trails around the house and fields.

Honda crf or xr70. They'll pass it on to their children.

This.

If your 7 yr old is big and has good riding skills, then they might be ok with a KLX110 or CRF110.

I started on a Suzuki drz (?) 110. Small frame small wheel with a 3 speed semi automatic transmission.

Stepped up to a xr 100 from there. Rode that until I quit after a bad wreck.

I've had a few dirtbikes..

IMHO the Crf110 is a great bike and would be what I would get next. The 70 is just slightly bigger than the 50...and not really a big step up

And when they get older you can throw on some scooter tires and supermoto it on the kart track at VIR

Trust me..we've gone thru bikes!!

They loved that 110

My kids enjoyed the 110 on the kart track until they were old enough to drive

Anyone have a comparison of the 110 to to the ktm50?
Looking at specs, the ktm is the same weight as his current ttr 50 and 70lbs lighter than the 110.

He is good on the ttr changing gears and all that, I just wonder about the weight increase with 110?

KLX110 or CRF110. This past year there has been another pit bike boom so they’re harder to come by, so if you see one, get it.
Because everything else is so damn expensive and maintenance intensive. I sometime wonder how the damn interest stays alive.

Ktm anything is better performance. Higher parts cost and a really good bike. The CRF will just do what it does, little to no huge performance just longevity. This however is my stance on the two brands a cross the board.

Comparing apples to oranges. The KTM 50 is a two stroke motocross race bike. The KLX110 and CRF110 are 4 stroke play/trail bikes.

Nice thing about the used small Honda's, if you pay a reasonable price for it and take care of it, it will pretty much always be worth what you paid for it. I bought a XR70 for my cousin to learn on and now that I'm getting ready to sell it, it's still worth what I've got in it.

This

KTM will be much wilder and more difficult to control for a novice, but if your kid is good, it will be a scalpel and launch pad for years of bad financial decisions:huggy:

I found out today my buddy is selling his sons cobra 50. 10” front tire bike because he aged out of the class

Don’t know if it’s a good price or not

Thanks for the heads up. I'm probably going with the 110 or the likes. I don't want to deal with the maintenance and I have no plans to push him towards a track.

Need to find one to see if it's too big, might have to wait another year to upgrade. Just buy another 50 for his brother.

My boy spent all afternoon on his Christmas present from dad. A Polaris Outlaw 50. Not two wheels but man he’s loving it.

Ha, I've been looking at those since I bought the ttr.
Trying to figure out how to get one and keep my 05 trx450r, I don't ride, and the wife not having a cow. I bought it new and I know if I sell it I won't get much and I'll never get another one.

I will be selling our outlaw 50 soon I guess. it's been pretty solid.
Wish they made the battery easier to get to when the dern kids leave the key on though.
Atleast I can bump start the ttr when they kill it. Should have bought the crf with the kick start.

He’s really good about turning it off with the key and brining it to me when he’s done. This one is set up with a trickle charger too.

I’ve got to replace the bushings etc on the front but it’s to be expected.

I can’t wait to get on two wheels again and blipping a two stroke around should be the perfect thing to put me in the hospital. Lol. Just kidding. I spent about 12 yrs on two wheels so it’s second nature but I wasn’t above 40 then either.
