Killing wasps or hornets

Last year I had a problem with them in a cross tie wall and the only way I could get rid of them was a metal blade fan pulling out in front of the crack for a few days. We could hear them hitting the blades the whole time day and night and when it was over I had a inch deep pile of dead yellow jackets around the fan.

that is my next step i had to do something to confine them to one way in and out, as before they were coming out of the gravel on the back side and about a 6 foot section of the retaining wall so a fan might have got a few but i was waiting till i had them coming in and out of one area

Doesn't matter the fan pisses them off and they attack it.
