KO2 Opinions!?

Being that you're in VA, you'd be alright, but those of us in NC have to pay sales taxes on Coopers from Tread Depot. They come out of a warehouse in Hickory. :(

I've bought from them before though and they're good folks! Took 2 days for my tires to get here. Not bad at all!

They have a warehouse in West Charlotte too, but wouldn't let me just pickup from the warehouse. But Tire kingdom and Discount Tire will price match them ;)

Update:

A quick reminder...

KO2 = SHIT TIRES!

This tire has less than 30k miles on it!

Tread won't pass inspection and belts separated! I've towed with the tire maybe 5 times so it hasn't seen any significant weight beyond that of the truck.

To top it off, BFG LT tires have ZERO mileage warranty.

I have a set of Cooper AT3, great tire....bought an F-150 from a member & first purchase was this set. A year later, the still look & ride great!

The new AT KO2 must be a new compound. I've been reading more and more about this. I've had a few sets of the original KO and seen upwards of 50-60k on them.

The Cooper AT3 or Nitto Terra Grappler G2 is going to be the tire that goes on when I level the new truck. Hell, between myself and BrownsXJ, the Trail Grapplers on my old F250 probably had 60k on them when before they looked like the tire you posted.

The AT3 and G2 are within $25 of each other for the set. I'm leaning towards the AT3 because it's what I had originally planned on when I got the KO2.

Any reason to buy the G2 over the AT3?

Brand preference for me. In my vehicle ADD, I've run two sets of Terra Grapplers and 2 of Trail Grapplers. Everyone in my immediate family with a truck has one or the other. Always good wear from them. I'm not opposed to the Coopers, they're a quality tire, I just haven't personally run them.

I chewed up the Terra Grapplers pretty quickly on my truck, especially the rear. Currently running General AT2s and they are holding up ok. I plan to try the Cooper AT3s next.

Let's see... I've ran:

2 sets of old style Goodyear MTRs (265/75r16 and 37x12.50)
1 set of Goodyear MTR Kevlars (275/70r18)
1 set of Goodyear MTs (36x12.50)
3 sets of SS IROKs (2 sets of 36x13.50 and 39x13.50)
2 sets of BFG KM2s (255/85r16 and 35x12.50r15)
1 set of BFG AT KOs (275/70r18)
1 set of Nitto Terra Grapplers (285/75r16)
1 set of Nitto Trail Grapplers (295/70r18)
1 set of Nitto Mud Grapplers (33x12.50r18)
1 set of Toyo ATs (285/75r16)
1 set of Pro Comp Xterrains (38x13.50)
1 set of Continental Contitrac (275/70r18)
1 set of Michelin LT AT2 (275/70r18)

The best tires I've owned in ~300k miles of driving various vehicles are Nittos, in any flavor. I've been happy with them across several different vehicles. They're a bit spendy but worth it.

Just my 2 cents after running 17 different sets of tires over the years...

@rockcity - what load range is the tire that had the broken belt?

Also, the new Nitto Ridge Grappler will be out soon and it will be released in a Load F tire. I'll likely be putting those on the new Super Duty.

I had a set of the original BFG AT KO's load range E on my Dodge Ram 2500 CTD 4x4. They didn't make it to 30,000 miles before they were down to the wear bars. I will never own another set on a tow rig again. The truck is currently rolling on Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I guess everyone has had a bad experience with some brand or another. I have always had as much luck with the "Cheesemaster A/Ts" as I have anything else.

That said... I can't say how they would do on a heavy rig. But my current KO2s on my Comanche are wonderful! They are amazing in the soft dirt, mild mud and snow. (I take it up on the trails at the SHOP on work days). They ride great, they are quiet, and seem, so far, to be wearing great. 15k and I can still see where the nubs were!

This is def a new compound, as advertised. Do a burnout and notice the smell. It is different. Reminds me of some stock car tires we ran for a while. Very distinctive smell compared to other tires.

Imma let everyone finish...but the innernet says Ground Hawgs are the best tire ever.

Serious note though...the last handful of sets of tires I've bought from BFG have blown out or didn't last 30k. As badly as it pains me to say, Nittos have been showing up on the work/tow trucks. Hauling 10k daily...still getting 40-45k out of 35's on one ton crew cabs.

And I bet you get 47mpg too?

On my second set of 285/75R17 E1 rated Nitto Terra Grapplers. The first set I think got 40ish on the rears before they were too short to rotate back up front. Bought new for the rear, kept the fronts for about another year until they were down to 3/32nd, then put the rears up front and put a new pair out back. Not sure how many miles are on them now, but the tires up front were probably more like 45-50k before they came off the truck.

Dodge is 8k empty and normally around 11.5-12k gross. The rears would last a lot longer if not for the trailer weight.

Also, don't listen to anything Matt says. That guy goes sideways everywhere. No wonder he can't keep rear tires alive.

No...closer to 8mpg's. But what do you find so unbelievable??? 25k out of a set of street driven boggers, 30-35k out of TSL radials...you think 40k is outside the realm of possibility on a designated street patterned tire? Where do you think I should be???

Edit...not sure why you can't get decent tire life, but like I said, so far I've gotten the most life out of the Nittos hauling this stuff around daily:

I'm looking for a tire sponsor if anyone is interested. I'll be glad to run your stickers and wear the hat.
