KOH new "Every Man Challenge"

We downloaded the rule book for the stock class, we went through everything. And I KNOW i'll get shit for this but.....

gen1 swb montero V6,auto
35" kevlar Mtr's on raceline beadlocks
gen2 front and rear axles(9.5") with 4.90's or 5.29's, dual ARB's
2.5"x14" King smoothie piggyback resevoir shocks on Old Man Emu 2" heavy lift kit, 1" body lift and fenders rolled/cut

engine bored and built accordingly, heavy-duty cooling on the trans, and the 3.15:1 tcase gears

and of course all the standard race stuff; rollcages, fuel cell, etc

What you think?

For a much shorter and cheaper road trip, and lower entry cost, you could instead run A-class in ECORS at Jellico in November....

just sayin...

But personally if i were starting from scratch and had the $$$ I'd get a late 90s TRD Tacoma w the factory SC, and add long-travel IFS.

If you want my guestimate? There will be about 15 west coast Jeepspeed racers racing full on, that make up the top 10 in stock class....

I really think "my" set-up would hold its own and be a top contender, but then again I dont know what the "norm" will be for the 1st year!

Make no mistake, the norm for the first year will be very fast and very competitive.... Do you have any experience in the desert?

A new hammers video must have come out recently or something..?

Like they said, if you think you've got what it takes to finish a race like that why not give ecors a try?

If you are wnating to run the montero it should be good. definitely beef up the front with the Gen 2 parts and I would do something about the front shock set up. Those 2 bolt fork set up is weak. I have worked the bolts out several time even with loctite it striped the thread on the lower control arm. The factory air locker for the rear is just as good as the arb. i have really enjoyed mine. I would put a hood vent set up to let the heat escape easier. Mine came with 2 tranny coolers. One in the radiator and the 2nd aux cooler in the grill. Reroute your exhaust might help on freeing up some hp. I think it would be a good set up and should hold up well.

You live on the east coast. Race ECORS. Leave that desert shit to those who live on the west coast.

If you are an East Coaster, it's probably a safe bet to budget $4000 just for the trip alone.

Are you renting a camper to stay on the lake bed with your rig?

How many days do you plan on pre-running?

Where are you going to fine tune your Montero here?

How much racing experience do you have? Auto? 4x4?

Do you fully understand the safety requirements and costs involved?

Your posts talk about winning KOH (stock class), you are going against pro-drivers that will have $50,000 in mods done to a stock jeep or tacoma. They will have unlimited spare parts resources and unlimited pit crew knowledge. Can you compete with that? Or will you be a trail plug out of the gate?

In no way would I discourage you. I'm all about dreaming big and I say do it. Post up your build plan. Post up your sponsor search. Throw some pictures up here.

I have actually considered the same thing (KOH Stock Mod). I've been building on my rig for years and estimate it would still cost me another $9000 in parts/labor to get it in a position to run hard out there (not win, but just be able to be abused properly) and another $4k for the trip. Plus the 11 or 12 days needed for the travel/pre-running etc. Hard to commit that kind of cash to go run your car into the ground.

But then again, people say it is an experience of a lifetime. Look around, there are some guys on this forum who have raced in the KOH race- I would reach out to them for some help and advice.

:wheel:

Yeah, if you want maximum fun for your money, race ECORS. I wouldn't waste my time driving out there to compete against the jeepspeeders and $50k "stockers" that are sure to dominate the class.

? so you went from building a trail rig to building a race rig? lol race ECORS have fun for a whole lot less talk to chris about it im sure he can fill you in thats why he is back to co driving lol!!

Jeepspeeds are very capable in the stock class and although they look stock, they are beefed up tremendously!

An every-day rig race? Maybe, but who can go out there from the east coast and race on a Monday? The winner gets a spot in the big race on Friday. Thats a looooong couple of weeks for anyone

It was never a real scenario to race in the KOH stock event, it was more of a "Man if I could get out there" daydream thing.
