Kure Beach Fishing

Yea I cant even find anything online as far as reports go for the beach. I've found a few for offshore, nearshore, and inland but nothing from the beach. Luckily for me a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
Yeah a bad day of fishing beats a good day of a lot of things. They are catching some whiting on shrimp. Just try and find a hole close to the shore watching the waves breaking. I always look at low tide and find holes and then fish them at high.

That's the plan at this time. I really don't care what I catch as long as I catch something. We found a boat to rent for around $500 for the day. It's a 21' Boston Whaler so we might get it for a day and an hit the inlet, bay, and some near shore fishing. Otherwise we might just go out on a charter. I'll probably call around when I get down there and see if I can book something.

We do some flounder gigging with my brother's 16' Jon boat, slowly talking him into actually fishing out of it and not just sitting around til dark and putting in. We just fish creek mouths up snows cut. If you put in at fort fisher be super careful there's a lot of shallow water.

I'd say we could flounder gig but the boat gets crowded with more than 2.

I think you'd do better w chartering a local guide service than renting a boat, they know when and where the fish are and how to catch them, a half day trip should be cheaper than renting a boat for $500. If you don't have any beach rod holders for surf fishing you can make some cheap ones w thin walled 1.5" PVC SDR. cut it at a sharp angle w a hacksaw and it's easy to drive into the wet sand to hold your rod while you re-bait or take a fish off the hook. I cut 10' pieces into 2 tall holders w the diagonal cut across the middle of the pipe.

Only reason for renting the boat was so that the whole family could come along. I'm much more up for the charter. Hell I'd rather go out on a head boat. Every year when it comes time to go to the beach I regret that I sold my boat a few years ago. Also I bought a few sand rod holders years ago and made a few more last year so I'm all set there.

Anyone going to fort fisher tomorrow? I'll be out and about in a dark blue xj on 32s. Hopefully won't get it stuck this year lol.

I was out there today and watched a guy bury a new 1500 Chevy, dude had his wife trying to rock the truck, lol:popcorn: I bet that was a long, long, long ride home. I offered to get him out, but he "had it under control"...:shaking:

I made $70 pulling two people out today. Sand was thick, almost buried mine trying to pull some one instead of just using my winch. My jeeps still getting to warm driving down the beach. Gotta dig into that more. A lower thermostat didn't help too much.

Sounds like fort fisher is pretty soft this week. I may skip out and head to Freeman's park. I'll have my 63 yo dad, my brother and his son with me and don't really wanna get stuck. They really just wanna ride around.

Yeah, I've been going for about 5 yrs now, and Ive never had an issue. But I had two close calls yesterday. Mom wanted to stop and grab some sea shells, when I went to takeoff, we went down instead of forward. That was a very bad feeling, luckily it hooked and we got out. That would of been embarrassing...

I had my closest call ever down there awhile back. I was aired down to 15 and made a gradual turn to get setup and she just sunk, I kept backing up trying to take off without severe hop and actually had to get into the tide line before it was solid enough to accelerate without severe hop. Scary stuff for me!! I been riding on the beaches since I was a kid (first ride was in an AMC Eagle) been to Portsmouth and stayed for a week multiple times where you never get off the sand and Ft Fisher is the worst I have seen this year.

So would you guys say that I would be better off at freeman park? Really don't wanna get stuck with the family lol. I've heard it was more packed sand there. Anything to watch out for?

just air down and make no sudden stops, starts or turns. I was out there two weeks ago and had no issues, (245 all terrains) I just kept steady, and carried a little speed with me at the "S" turns coming in and at the crossovers. I havn't been to Freeman this year so I can't help ya there.

Only people I have really seen stuck were stock tires and no driving skill. If you have oversized tires and do as infamous says you'll have no problems. If you do have some trouble I'll be free after 4.

Been at freeman park since about 330. It's been awesome. Haven't done too much exploring mainly just fishing with the family. Hardly any people out today and no party's going on. Kinda wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of wild women's tho!! Lol
