Air Force pilot Major Brian Shul reminisces about the infamous day he and his co-pilot Walter flew the world’s fastest jet, the SR-71 Blackbird, across the western US while listening in on air traffic control in LA. What unfolded was a classic case of male braggadocio across the airwaves and the formation of an ever lasting bond between co-pilots.

Funny how this stuff comes up. I read the story a long time ago, but just stumbled across some recordings of his speeches last week (Youtube recommendations, maybe??), and listened to him tell the story for the first time. Couple of days later, you found it and posted it here.

It's gone viral!

Or some such shit.

Watch the whole hour or so presentation. Damn well worth it.

back in the days of living in florida we would go fishing in the "lagoon" near patrick airforce base. 2 different times we had the pleasure of seeing that beauty take off. well, hear really. when they kicked it in she was so fast by the time you recognized that was a "different" sounding plane taking off and turned your head she was well off the ground and going up fast.

That was well worth the 5 minutes it took to stop and listen. I'd love to hear more from him, he sounds like a hoot (12 yr old )

while we are doing test flights....here is one Boeing just did on the 787:

Boeing spent 18 hours drawing an outline of the 787 Dreamliner across America

he is a remarkable man

I got a little dust in my eye when he spoke of his flight over the hospital he recovered in, there at the end.

What an amazing, inspirational, witty man.

only got a chance to watch the first 5 minutes , but Im gonna watch the rest later. I love stuff like this.

Dang straight he's earned the right to speak about his flying.....but he does it very well. Most folks just suck at public speaking, this guy hits a pretty good mark in that category as well.

Posterchild for "don't judge a book by it's cover"

Incidentally....I'm buying that book!
I thought the same thing. Then i saw how much that book costs!

I watched it and enjoyed it also. He spoke alot of truth with his words. Might be time in my life to do what I want sooo I believe Maryann is still alive and off that damn island.

Just finished watching it too. What a amazing story this guys life has been.
