Is it too late in the year to cut back and burn pampas (sp?) grass?
I have about 10 clusters at the house that are overgrown and have a lot of dead material in the middle. Will they still grow back this summer?

Grab a spade and get them out of the ground into a plastic trashbag. Get some soil to fill in the spots and reseed grass. If you don't kill the roots, a lot of plants will come back.

HUH????

He doesn't want rid of the pampas he wants to reinvigorate it
It is not ideal time, no but IMHO you will not have any problems

Of course if they all shrivel up die, and make your yard look like a giant zit faced teenager I am totally not at fault

He's not wanting them to be GONE....just doing the annual cut-back

Should be done in the fall, never seen it done in the spring...so I'm not much help. I wouldn't burn them now, but 'd go ahead and trim it up. Besides, I THINK theres a burn ban on right now

Thanks for the replies, I will just cut them back alot. I don't want to get rid of them, they are just huge and have alot of dead stuff in them.

No brakes in the 'mando right now and, from what I hear, they are mandatory for not only the drive down, but the trails as well.

I WILL make it down sometime.

Nah, Commandos aren't allowed to have everything working all at once!
:)
The grounds crew here on campus has been cutting back a lot of the plants, trees, and ornamental grasses here on campus this week, so hopefully it isn't too late...
