Let's help out a fellow wheeler

Yep, be at 3J on friday about 10:30 ish, appt at 10:45, be glad when this is over, I'm bored as hell !

bfeller, Thanks for the offer. I will be in touch and take you up on that. We hate being lost in a hospital.

Just let me know when and where. I'll make sure that I can find the clinic. I still have my own times of getting lost. A few weeks ago it took me a while to help one of our soldiers locate a clinic. This clinic was in the basement and wasn't connected to the basement of the main hospital. We actually had to go up one floor and then down again. But - at least now know how to find the Neurology Clinic.

If I can't make it, I'll do my best to get you there.

Brett

A suggestion, if you can find it, at least the first time, use the valet parking. it's $7 for a day and they park your junk and retrieve it for you. Saves aggrivation finding a place to park, and then navigating the garage and tunnels. parking garage is $1 an hour anyway.

I've been going to Duke Clinic for the last month for a severe hand injury, while the surgon i've been dealing with is an arrogant PITA, the Occupational threapy folks have been awesome. I tried to find you a map, but not knowing where they are sending you makes it kinda tough to know what building ( there are a few)

I can tell you that the clinic is fairly easy to find your way around, as long as you have a floor and a suite number, an elevator color would help you immensely ( not all elevators reach all floors)

anyway try http://www.dukehealth.org/ there may be some helpful info there.

The outpatient clinics are in Duke South. Duke North is Inpatient - it has the patients that have been admitted. The difference is that inpatient - the doctors usually come to your bedside. Outpatient is when you visit the DR at what is essentially his/her 'office'. Physical Therapy varies - some of it is done at bedside - others end up in their PT workrooms and those are scattered to best meet the needs of the patient. They have them in both Inpatient and Outpatient areas of the Hospitals.
If you are going into Duke South there is a parking garage directly across the street from it - with a crossover bridge that allows you to stay inside - once in the bridge. Duke North Parking has a underground tunnel that takes avoids a tough intersection for pedestrians.

Not trying to hijack the thread. Hey voodoo what happened to your hand. Hope its okay.

Umm, lets just say I got into a disagreement with a forklift while trying to repair it, it won, I lost.....a finger :handed:

Damn...hope it wasn't the middle one. I've seen you use that one and you're good. :D Seriously, hope things will work out and that you're not still glowing in the dark. If you are, don't worry, it wears off after awhile, too.

Kevin, just a word of experience to bolster your confidence a bit: Duke is the best. Though my medical problem wasn't what your wife is experiencing, it's where I was finally correctly diagnosed, and the clinics have been right on the money at working one-on-one and one day at a time with you and adjusting dosages and making things as easy as possible. After being dragged through a living hell for two years in W-S by the local "Miracle on Hawthorne Hill" and experiencing no love, communication, or progress, Dook took the challenge and has done the trick. 'Course, no longer glowing in the dark means now I have to take a flashlight in the bathroom so I can finish reading the 4X4 mag in the event of a power failure....... Gotta be prepared.

I was just at the Duke Clinics today. It is a little confusing. 40 to 85N to Exit 174A then turn left on Erwin Rd, turn right onto Trent Drive and you have the option of the valet service to your right, or the parking deck to the left. They do have attendants that can take your wife to her appt. in a wheelchair, if that would help.

Nah, I quit glowing awhile ago, though I did go for a CT today, damn I hate needles !!

middle one was effected, 90% sever of flexor tendon, but no bone and a little muscle/tissue damage, going thru OT now, it WILL rise to the occasion again ! While the index finger of right hand, well, it's about 1.25" shorter now, there was no saving it, sudden crushing sever, between leaf chain and shouldered roller. I was damn lucky it wasn't my whole hand.

My experiance with Duke hasn't been bad, just an arrogant "world renouned" Orthopedic surgeon/ hand specialist, whom I've spoken to a whole 2.5 minutes. thru this whole process. My biggest beef was the surgeon told my wife that MY CAREER WAS OVER. Come on dude, WTF ?

I certainly hope Mrs. KC has a much better experiance.
