Let's talk axles

I'M PRETTY SURE THE TACO IS 8.4 I HAD ONE AND I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD OPTION FOR ME DOWN THE ROAD I THINK I'M GOING TO STICK WITH MY MINI TRUCK STUFF FOR A BIT LONGER AND TRY TO JUST SET IT UP AS GOOD AS IT CAN BE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS

Isn't the Tacoma non-Elocker rear diff an 8.4 too? The T100 version is significantly wider that mini-truck stuff isn't it? I know the Tacoma rear is wider than the IFS rear too.
Yes the non-elocker rears were the 8.4, wms is in the 65" range I think.

You are also running taller tires and a good bit more motor than he.
Yeah but listen to what I said, everyone told me the same thing when I wanted to switch to tons, ground clearance will suck, the extra weight will suck, the extra width will suck, blah, blah, blah. I didn't trust my toy stuff enough to keep it so I did the swap anyway and stayed on the same tires and changed to a front 4 link instead of the 3 link. With everything other than the axles and the extra link up front the same I have noticed none of the negatives that everyone told me would happen and there's only been positves.

I would guess swapping from Toys to a typical set of tons (D60/14BFF) would add about 450-600 lbs.

So are you saying your HP/WT ratio did NOT suffer? Or that it just isn't noticeable?

If the latter it would mean towards reasoning that you're running a 6cyl.

I'm 100% confident my buggy would benefit greatly from running lighter toy axles with better clearance...until the axles and diffs exploded that is.

My buggy weighs 400 lbs more now with the tons so yes my hp/wt ratio suffered some but can I notice it? NO, if anything the extra weight seems to help the buggy more and clearance wise I hit just as much stuff with the diffs now as I did with toys, when going over rocks taller than your tires any diff is going to hit lol.

For what it's worth I have been running an fj60 front (built) and tacoma 8.4 (stock) rear in my tacoma with 39.5's and a 3rz and have had zero breakage. I recently ditched the taco rear for a full float fj80 rear but haven't wheeled it yet. With the taco 8.4, full exo cage, full fuel cell, the truck weighed in at 3980 without me in it.

Edit: and I personally built the fj60 and fj80 thirds, both are welded. I was running a lockright in the tacoma 8.4
