I had a friend drop by my place yesterday and he was in his "Church Van" and although he nor the van look like thieves, I was concerned because I didn't know if he was staking my place out or what. I couldn't tell that it was him but I have a lot of supplies stockpiled where he was dropping off some parts for me and I was concerned. My Blink cams didn't do the job I needed and I def couldn't see his license plate had he been a thief.
So I searched for license plate cameras and evidently they are a whole different category and price than Blink or Ring.
What are y'all using?

No help other than to say, my spartan trail cams pick up plates during the day, but wash out from the reflection at night.

You know, it's amazing..... the gun store near me was broken into and the crappy cameras they had got grainy video that ended up being completely worthless to the cops. On the other hand, not long ago, we were driving back from Florida with our camper in tow and went through a toll booth that had two lanes open. One was for the EZ Pass (which we don't have) and the other was for "exact change only". Neither was manned. Since all I had were 20's, I coulfn't use exact change. I ended up rolling through, only to receive a bill in the mail for $3 and an enclosed 4K image as clear as a bell with not only my trailer's tag number but you could even tell when it was up for renewal. I wish I knew what kind of camera they were using to get that clear of an image on a rolling vehicle. The gun store really could have used a couple of those!

I wouldn't sweat it, the people who come to steal stuff will have stolen tags anyway. Vehicle description is more useful.

What differentiates license plate cams is the use of infared illumination and IR filters to washout background noise in the images. Then the plates are ‘read’ by optical character recognition (OCR) software. A pair of commercial-grade ALPR cameras runs about $10-15k, depending on the setup.

I didnt have all the details, but was going to say that the cost of those cameras would likely be more then what they could walk away from my house with, easily.

What you're paying for there is the automated OCR tech. Which is handy for IDing thousands of plates, but completely unnecessary in the home user case where a human can just look at the 1 plate and read it.
You def. need IR illumination and filters though

So what I’m gathering here is tens of thousands of your tax dollars to capture you for the purpose of taxing you for driving on the roads you already pay taxes for Vs. A few hundred you can afford after having your ass taxed to death to protect your life and household.

Check.
Almost correct.
Just needs to be said a little angrier.

Amazon has some for a few hundred bucks but I'm not doing that.
