Maybe not exactly tech, but I didn't know where to post it. I am trying to find more specific info on lift laws in NC. Something more detailed than "no higher than 6 inches" because my jeep is higher than that now and it is fine.
What about full width axles and tire coverage? Can you register jeeps if they are on 37s or larger tires for example? I think I remember being at CRS and seeing an unlimited on 40s being built for trail & street use.

I am trying to plan out where I want to go and the key is that I always want to be able to take it into town on a nice weekend.

Thanks!

i dont know the exact law, but around burlington i dont think they care. My buddy had a 84 scottsdale on 44's and they never stopped him. I think if the cop wants to be a d*ck then they'll enforce it. Just drive it like u have some sense. if u use search at the top u may find out more on it.

the law is literally it can't be higher than 6" over stock, thats it. However it is hardly enforced, technically a cop could pull you over for being lifted too high but like dixiemudder said they usually won't unless your driving like an idiot.

There in no fender law in NC, you can have the tires hanging out completely if you want, there is an axle coverage law thou, technically your supposed to have something covering the center of the axle so if you were to run a truck with no bed you could "technicly" get pulled over for it, but once again its hardly enforced.

the 6" rule includes lift and tires...if it's actually enforced...

be more concerned about DMV officers than police officers or inspection stations...

remember with tires...you're only going up half the height difference...for example, a Rubicon that came on factory 31's could go to 39's and a 2" Budget Boost and be completely legal since there was 4" in height gain on the tires and 2" on the lift...

there wasn't a whole lot of lift on the Unlimited Andy did...probably more than 2", but not a whole lot...

great, where did you find this info? Is it available online at the DMV website?

which basically means our (yalls I live in the GOOD Carolina) trucks are cool.

But all the caprices rolling on 24s are illegal.

Do those guys typically add > 6" of lift? I figured it was more like 3-4, just enough to fit the tires.

It,s kinda like the dot helmet laws for motorcycles. Most cops could care less. But getting it inspected is where you're going to have problems, but I'm sure there is someone on here that could point you in the right direction.

well it 6" of ride height.

Ill have to do some math and post up later.

Im thinking if you add 7" of rim alone you gotta be getting close.

Hell some of them I see running around need step bars. And stock they are what 8" off the ground?

Ill 2nd this motion.

If they could care less, doesn't that mean they care?

Well they could care less; but they could care a lot more.

Couldnt care less would have been a better choice

So basiclly half the vehicles on this board are illegal. Unless they are part time offroad vehicles.

I got pulled over on Hwy 29 close to Concord Mills for my truck being too high over the legal limit. I don't guess the trooper had too much to do that night because he was complaining about my park brake cable touching a bracket under the truck. He showed me the law in the book, but failed to show me the part about ocassionall offroad use. I did the math, and it's about 18" over stock.

sounds like there is not a limit on a truck, just passanger cars.

Yea, he was definately bored. For that he could stop every chevy truck made since, well, lets just say made. They have the brake line and parking brake cable routed under the rear axle cause GM is too cheap to build a different backing plate for different sides. If I were you I'd print out that last post and keep it in the glove box to "inform" the next leo that stops you for lift.

Yeah, I printed it off and it's gonna stay in my truck with me so I can just pull it out before the officer even thinks to open the book. That way he knows that I've done some research. Oh well. I didn't get a ticket, just a warning.
