Lift Law and tire coverage info

That doesnt surprise me that you got pulled near Concord Mills.. thats the biggest police trap/harrassment area in all of Charlotte/Concord, I think in that area its a cross between their boredom and just being complete d!cks:flipoff2: , beats me what it is about the cops right there but they always have someone pulled over. They dont seem to be that bad around the rest of this area as they are there. Sorry, didnt mean to venture off topic, just had to get that out.. haha
But yeah, interested in knowing what constitutes a part-time off road vehicle from any other truck/jeep on the road?? Seems to me any 4x4 vehicle could be considered a part-time off road vehicle??

I have asked the same question to officers, and troopers. They al basically said the same thing which was they have better things to do than write a ticket for that kind of thing. A few went on to add, that if an accident was to happen, then an illegal lift height can be used against the owner by the insurance company, and that if a lifted vehicle was deemed "unsafe" and caused an accident.

My Jeeps been on 40's and up since around '85. Pulled only once to have my headlights measured, drive normally and they'll leave you alone. Had a car pull out in front of me a few years ago, my left front tire just crushed in his fender and no damage to me. Police laughed and sent me on my way, didn't even bend the my tie rod.

Serves them right! I'm glad it didn't hurt your rig and damn glad to hear it crushed their fender.

well it 6" of ride height.
Ill have to do some math and post up later.
Im thinking if you add 7" of rim alone you gotta be getting close.
Hell some of them I see running around need step bars. And stock they are what 8" off the ground?

hahah

THE DONK! I've driven that car around the parking lot before!

he just sold those 24's and should be riding on 28's now.... too bad he didn't go for the 30's like i think he should have gotten:(

cape fear 4x4 built that thing. it's got a 350, 2wd cherokee front axle, and a total of 20" of lift with 4 links front and rear.

SO SWEET!

i saw that hunk of junk driving down the street and bout threw up my lunch. I would be embarrassed to be associated with the building of that piece. I hate those cars, completely useless and just retarded

That's looks like it's right near my house, and I've never seen it before.

Bit over the top if you ask me...

Yeah, I printed it off and it's gonna stay in my truck with me so I can just pull it out before the officer even thinks to open the book. That way he knows that I've done some research. Oh well. I didn't get a ticket, just a warning.

If you want to try to throw that up at the next cop that pulls you over, you mite want to make REAL sure every thing you got is strait, like sign you registration ECT. Doing something like that may land you in jail.

Agreed, cops (like most people) don't like it when somebody acts like they know how to do their job better than they do! :shaking:

The state law straight up says:" No higher than 6" from the factory height, unless written OK from the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles". Like everyone else has been saying, there are no cops in NC that enforse that shit unless they are being dicks

Please read the bold type in Ridgerunner's post. If you take your vehicle off-road, it's legal
§ 20‑135.4. Certain automobile safety standards.
(a) Definitions. – For the purposes of this section, the term "private passenger automobile" shall mean a four‑wheeled motor vehicle designed principally for carrying passengers, for use on public roads and highways, except a multipurpose passenger vehicle which is constructed either on a truck chassis or with special features for occasional off‑road operation.
(b), (c) Repealed by Session Laws 1975, c. 856.
(d) The manufacturer's specified height of any passenger motor vehicle shall not be elevated or lowered, either in front or back, more than six inches by modification, alteration, or change of the physical structure of said vehicle without prior written approval of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.
On or after January 1, 1975, no self‑propelled passenger vehicle that has been so altered, modified or changed shall be operated upon any highway or public vehicular area without the prior written approval of the Commissioner. (1971, c. 485; 1973, cc. 58, 1082; 1975, c. 856.)

I am a police officer, and I dont mess with anyone who has a lifted truck and never heard of any one at my dept who does or would. Being nice to the police officer goes a long way trust me. There is a law that is listed above, but very rarely ever enforced.
