If you are following my daily driver hunt....a Tacoma is high on my list of possibilities.

I put out some leads via. the Toyota corporate website and I was blown away by all the games....up-sells, switching vehicles, market adjustment BS, dealer add-ons (Nitrogen in the tires....COME ON!).

Anyone got a lead on a good dealer that doesn't play games and can make things happen? I don't care if I place an order and get the truck in 3 months, but as I get older, my patience for bait and switch shenanigans is getting THIN!

I drove to Jackson TN for my last new vehicle purchase....from Raleigh.....I ain't scared to drive to get what I want, if I have to.

Try Toyota of Easley in Easley SC. I've bought 3 new trucks from them, my parents have bought 4. Easy to work with, tell them what you want and what you're not going to put up with. Just let them know up front, you're not just some dumbass off the street that they can play their up sale games with.

I bought my daughters Tacoma in 19 from Del Toyota. Actually leased it. They (had) stupid lease deals. Flew into Philly picked me up at airport. I was on the road in under 30 minutes for prices locals said “had to be a scam”

Got a good friend close by that goes through them every year. I asked about her last 2.
Toyota Direct in Colombus Ohio and whatever the Toy dealer is in Rome GA.
She said both were great experiences with little BS

Also, with the new 4th gen tacoma coming out very soon, should be a good time to pick up a new 3rd gen.
I was at the local dealership last week and stopped to peek at a Tacoma and got pinned by a salesman. He pointed out that this is the last year that a V6 will even be available. After this it's only turbo 4 cylinders. He's taking on it was the this was going to send the resale value of this year model through the roof.

Maybe a sales tactic? I don't know but seems very logical

2024 (4th gen) has some interesting powertrain options in the pipe.....I think the truck will have a turbo 4, and hybrid turbo 4 and a hybrid V6 (on the bigge$t trim packages).
I would prefer a V6 over a turbo 4 in a truck, and the design of the next gen isn't my style.
With the 22re being the engine of choice for many Yota fans, I think most people would be hard pressed to tell exactly what will be desirable in the long run. Everyone loves a turbo whistle......and no one cares about reliability if it gets them 1mpg extra on the window sticker.

Turbo 4 in the Tacoma will probably be great.

You'd think they'd make a cool one with a turbo v6. Like Ford should have made a 5.0 f150 with the Ecoboost turbos.

I think Mopar is the only ones doing displacement and forced injection these days. All the others are kinda pussin out…. I said what I said….
The 5.7 isn’t available in the 1500 starting in 24

That's why toyotas are so reliable. They're too underpowered to break stuff.
This. And while we poke fun at it... it's actually pretty logical.

Personally I don't care if the truck I'm looking to buy has 4, 6,. 2, or 16 cylinders. I want it to have juuuust enough power to get the job done and last the 60-100k miles I'm likely to own it without having to worry about it.
That latter part is where the Turbo-4 becomes a question I don't know the answer to. From a logic standpoint... everything should be turbo, it's "free" power. From a maintenance/longevity standpoint... eeeeh...

I don’t see why the turbo should be any sort of longevity issue. I’ve had the go 300-400k miles on trucks and never gave an issue. As long as EGT’s anre kept working parameters and oil flow is maintained it’s such a simple device there’s effectively nothing to go wrong.

Turbos are great, BUT it feels like the drive towards turbos is fuel economy.....In that pursuit, you start lightening crankshafts, reducing bearing contact, lightening connecting rods, using low tension rings (definitely bad with a turbo).
Low end torque availability is what a truck needs....I drove a 2016Colorado with 200hp and 190ft lbs....but it was all TOP end RPM range, that thing felt slower than my 2wd, 2.5l MJ.

On a different note, I found what I was looking for at an out of state dealer, and they said they can't sell it to me because I live more than 125miles from their dealership!

WTF?!?!?
Not uncommon.
The profit is in the service department. If they know they will get your service they will lower the sale price as a marketing expense..

Obviously doesn't want your money or the trouble of doing both states paperwork. I just bought from a Jeep dealer in Newport News VA. 242 miles away. They had no trouble taking my money. Sold it to me for the price we agreed on and I didn't tell them where lived until it was time to do the paperwork.

yup I drove all the way to DC to trade my old Mazda for a new one, dude did not GAF, he knew damn well I'd never be back.

I was surprised....my last new truck came from TN andy wife's last new car came from VA.

That TN dealership actually took a degree of pride in how far and wide their sales were.....if that dealership still existed, I would go back to them in a heartbeat!

Kernersville dodge has a map of the US with red pins on it, bragging about how far away they sell vehicles.

One thing that i found when i was buying a Ram recently was that the forums dedicated to those trucks know the dealers that will play ball. There are basically 3 ram dealers to buy from if you want a factory order right now, all will give about the same price off invoice. Mark Dodge in LA, Granger in Iowa, and Koons in VA, all welcome out of state buyers. Mark Dodge offered to pick me up at the Houston airport and shuttle me to the dealer to pick up my truck. I'd reccomend at least snooping around the tacoma forums and see if there are any well known dealers that the forum people use, if so there is probably a good reason.
