Locker front or rear, and best one?

I would say do not get a spartan locker I would go with either a lock right or an aussie locker. I have messed with all 3 and spartan has given the most trouble and difficulty to install and take out.

explain please. The Spartan in my 44 went like clock work.

Which ever you decide on front or rear locker both have there advantages. I would say do not get a spartan locker I would go with either a lock right or an aussie locker. I have messed with all 3 and spartan has given the most trouble and difficulty to install and take out. Having a luchbox locker on the road in the front axle wont change the way it drives much but you will notice a little difference.

And talking to Chase at ECGS, he even said it's a little easier than the others due to the Spartan's design. The Spartan is cheaper than the others and it comes with the hardened cross pin, it's extra $$$ with lock-rite, aussie or ez locker. So I'd really like to know what kind of trouble and difficulty you had.

With the XJ's wheelbase you can go either way, front or rear first, but if you lock the rear it will drive different due to loading and unloading unless you put in a selectable locker like an ARB etc.

I would lock up the rear first. Most (if not almost all) vehicles that come stock with a locker or LSD is in the rear. I am sure there is one out there but I have never heard of a vehicle coming from the factor with a locker in the front and nothing in the back. All your weight is in the back, and its the axle usually getting the most traction especially on inclines etc. My buddy with an 99 XJ had the same question. Either way you go best of luck with it. :driver:
