Logging Pine Trees

I've got about 20 pines on my lot that I want gone. What are my options?

If you haven't gathered by now, I'm a cheap bastard. I know tree work taint cheap, but I also know people grow pines on their property as investments. Thinking along those lines, I was hoping I'd have a chance that a small logging outfit may be interested. I know it's not a huge haul of wood to bring all their equipment over but it ain't just a couple trees either. If not, what's my best option to get these off my property as cheap as possible?

I know the cost of lumber is crazy right now but not sure how that translates into the raw materials right now. I also know there's a few folks on here that work in the industry and others that just have general knowledge of shiote like this so figured I'd put it out there.

Thanks in advance fellas

Few pertinent details...
- ~2 acre lot in a neighborhood out in the county (relatively easy to get equipment in / out but unfortunately I ain't on a farm either).
- not sure if it's white or yella pine but they're pretty big; some are bigger than I can wrap my arms around (I'm 6'3"); however, they have not been limbed up for some prime choice lumber as if they were being farmed for such
- they could likely fell some but not the majority - it'd take some climbing / bucket truck work
- any other details needed just ask

Being it's not plantation stand straight pine and as little as you're talking, you aren't going to find anyone to pay you anything for them. Lumber finished product is sky high right now but timber prices are only average. Your best bet is to post up on facebook and ask if anyone is interested in coming to take it all off. Will you be able to burn it it or at least any tops and limbs left over being in a neighborhood?

Big chipper would be ideal. I've had a few burns at the house already clearing out these woods, great way to get introduced to all your new neighbors...

I had a buddy (RIP) that ran a sawmill. He quit sawing anything that came out of a yard or anywhere near a house, because of all the crap he hit....screws, lags, nails, etc, etc.

You’ll probably end up paying.

cheapest way is to do it yourself.

loggers don’t climb and rarely use chainsaws

Funny to think about, the logging crew I use are not even allowed to have a chainsaw on site-- only a pole saw for cleaning up trailers before leaving.

If you can find a small guy with a small 10wheeler with a mounted knuckle boom loader....they will pay you for them or at worst take them for free.

Where are you at? I can get you some contacts...

Not sure if thats because I've had someone do this on my property before, or because I have the equipment to handle trees and clearing, or because I have a sawmill, or because I do tree work part time, or because I like to burn stuff  :popcorn:

Anyway, @rcalexander105 I think you will have 2 major issues:
1. The trees that require climbing basically eliminate any chance of getting this done for free or making any money on it.
2. What do you want to do with the stumps? I cant imagine you want to clear 20 trees and still have 20 stumps in the ground. Getting them ground aint cheap, and digging them out makes a big muddy mess until you get grass in place and the dirt settles. What do you plan to do with the area(s)? And how scattered are they?

Do they just push them over?
google "feller buncher"

Not fella muncher...that would just be a pic of you...feller buncher

no they leave the roots for the landowner to deal with. But, they have very big machines that make short work of a stand of trees.

also an articulated wheeled version

Ahhh, I saw Bobby Goodson’s group use one of those a decade ago, didn’t know they were now being used by most now, things are awesome

Been there done that. Nobody wanted to pay me for my pines. I ended up cutting down about 60-70 pine trees at my old house and probably 20 at my new house by myself. Ended up paying a guy to clear another 55 of them at my new house. Our Family Tree Service was the guy. Really nice guy.

High Point, NC - 10 minutes from @CasterTroy, @Chris_Keziah and @cufor98 and probably 10-15 from Scott over at Trucks Unlimited

Would seriously consider renting a stump grinder and knocking it out myself.

I have a friend in the logging business and he won’t touch a pine unless he’s being paid to take it down. Are they dead and near power lines??

Huh?
Pines are where the money is...hardwood timber is pennies on the dollar comparatively unless you have a specific furniture cut

All he was cutting was white oak, red oak and hickory. That might be because of all the dead pines that are around here. The pine beetles killed a bunch of em.

This I have a half dozen huge pines I want gone. Everyone I talked to said because it was residential they couldn't use it. Too much metal in the wood.
