Especially when your leg is numb!!

That is all.

Well I have had that as well it does suck .

My cousin has a herniated disc in the thorasic area of the back has had that for 15 years .On friday he fell off a ladder 30 feet to the ground and now has a crush fracture to the L1 vertebrae.:( now has to get surgery

one shot of tidol (sp?) some vocodine & flexerall, it's starting to ease up. Damn I hate this shit. Seems every 4-5 months it flares up. I guess 7 years of moving pig iron on the carnival is taking it revenge on me.
Bowtie,
Hope yours starts to ease up man.
Wwildman,
I truly hope surgery helps your cousin. I have met only person that has been helped by surgery. The few others including my mother the surgery actully made quality of life worse. The other thing is the addiction to pain killers that often happens with chronic pain.

Had my back surgery, 3 blown discs. The second surgery they want to cut my stomach and lay everything out of the way and operate on the spine from the front! I don't think so! I 've been dealing with this a long time, Pain 24-7, best thing I found for pain is a COLD shower! If it's hurting bad enough you will do about anything to releive it. Trust me on this, it works.

oooooooohhhhhhhhh,,,, you make me shudder

yea im goin though the same thing now been goin to the doc for the last week, its startin to ease up now. Seems like mine flares up about every 4 or 5 months too. Im only 21 and just found out i have arematori athuritis (not sure on the spelling lol) keep us updated on some cures or reliefs

Spelling error corrected:flipoff2:
Hope laughing makes it better

If the doc would have gave me some chocolate with the midol it may have helped more.

He could hide it in cheese or bacon! Be careful about what the insurance knows about your pain and condition! Once you go into the computer with a back injury with surgery,Workman's Comp. doesen't want to cover you and that means you might be selling Hot Dogs.

^^ This is not workers comp. it's something I have been battling for a long time. Arthritis spurs & deteriorated disc. It truly sucks.

I am feeling a little better this morning though, the numbness in my leg is gone still sore in the lumbar region. We will see how the day goes.

I went through about a year of PT for this.

Best advice I can give for the younger guys: get out of your fawking chair. Sitting will kill you. Work on core strength. Better muscle control takes pressure off your spine. Stretch your abs (back bends) after doing anything where you're hunched over. You don't have to hold it or anything, just put your hands over your lower back/pelvis and bend backward as far as you can. Repeat 10x.

Jeff I had similar issues, except the other end, I did have surgery C6-C7 disc replacement, and a plate with four screws. I had no choice, my neck fell to the point I was only able to see the ground. My arm and hand went numb. Hand suffered nerve damage. Three small fingers feel as if they have a glove on them. They went through the front where my neck meets my chest can hardly see the scar now. A couple years after that, I was told I needed back surgery too, middle and lower back. I decided against it at the time. Now, I am debating. I have constant pain to one degree or another. Often times I do stuff I know I shouldn't do, then I pay for it for a long time.
While I was in the hospital with my heart surgery, I was told I was basically falling apart. High Blood pressure, High blood sugar, High Cholesterol, degenerative bone disease and heart disease.
I am just hanging around to see what happens next! So, if you see parts fall off, please let me know

Since no one has mentioned it... you might be surprised what a good chiropractor can do to help you with relieving that pain.

x11nty billion on this^^^

I've been dealing with Lower Back and Sciatic Pain. got so bad that last week while on vacation I couldn't walk, sit, lay down anything. I called a Chiropractor, crawled in, and walked out like nothing had ever happened.

I just happened to be filling out papers right now to get set up with a Chiropractor here in G-boro when I looked up and saw this thread. Feels like someone is stabbing a knife in my leg right now.

I strongly urge a Chiro. and it may take a few visits to get you straightened out, with periodic visits from time to time. But SO WORTH IT!

i had back surgery 10 years ago (under the advice of a chiropractor) and i have been great ever since. i had l3,l4,l5 removed and replaced with fat . i felt like a new man after the surgery.
i had heard horror stories of surgery and my mom was one of them, but i couldn't stand the pain anymore.

i still go to the chiropractor every month or so.

The doctor I see can adjust me just like the chiropractor, but I have the added benifits of getting the anti-inflamation meds & a pain killer if needed.

The shot has done more than anything to help the pain, I only needed the pain killers for last night. Feeling much better today. Once I can get the swelling to go down from around the disc it's all good.

It sucks, im only 21 and my lower back and knee give me trouble all the time. Kept me from going to the marines, but I try to work through it around the fire dept. Dont have insurance so doctors and stuff are out of the question for the time being.

I think my problems are the result of a stupid childhood and pushing my limit with stuff.

I can agree with this, Ice or that cold shower does the trick for me.

I was still a little sore today, I wont take any of the pain killers at work. Still not as bad as I was though. I should be back to 100% in a few more days.

really pain is a good thing sometimes. If I talk the painkillers at work & do something to hurt myself worse I may not really feel it till the meds wear off then I would be worse...

I know what you guys are going through, I hurt my back moving something I had no business moving a couple years ago and the pain was intense for the first few months afterwords. It got better for a while then would flare back up easier and hurt longer until I decided to see a chiropractor. The chiropractor didn't seem to help and after 8 months I had a MRI and found out my L5/S1 was all but destroyed. I went to Dr. Robert Allen in Raleigh and had Anterior lumbar Fusion January 14th. He said my disc actually came out in 3 pieces. Terry, that surgery went in through my stomach and believe me that beats them having to work through the muscle and nerves in the spine. I have been back to normal since about 3 months after surgery and am very glad I decided to have the surgery so I can get out and play with my 7 year old and enjoy the hobbies I love.

I've been to the Chiro 4 times this week, no meds, and I'm already noticeably better.

Meds will mask the problem, but with out something corrective (adjustment or surgery or ____), the issue will continue to deteriorate.

My doctor gave me advice that helped my occasional back pain. The lower back and abs work together to keep your upper body erect. Men let their abs go to shit, and your lower back has to work twice as hard. Strengthen your abs, and your back will clear up.
