I wanna know how the model rocket comment plays into me looking like Harry Potter, im totally confused on that front.

You generally wouldn't want to have any delay on the booster engines -- otherwise your rocket will be pointed downward by the upper stage lights! The pressure of the gasses generated upon ignition of the second stage is enough to blow apart the first and second stage. The taping of the engines when you butt them together is done to delay the separation.
