Man I hate my HOA

That's a good idea, go to the meeting and disband the fawker entirely!

I have said it before I love HOAs. I get tons of cars from them. Got one one day out of the HOA presidents driveway after it had puked all it's oil out on the cement. Guy called me and told me if I could get there int eh next 20 minutes I could have it. HE was driving down the street and his engine puked. We loaded it up and went around the corner before the HOS pres got home. The guy told me that he had been getting fines and letters about his yard. Wonder if the president got fined for an oily driveway.

A lot of people talk bad about HOAs, but in the end they settle for a community with one anyway. If more people would put their money where their mouth is and not buy these homes it wouldn't be such a widespread problem. The builders who are developing these communities are just doing what the money tells them to do.

My wife wanted to live here. She now sees the problem with HOAs when you are married to me.

But seriously, I think it might be the old guy up the road reporting me. Back in 2008 he had an Obama sign in his yard so I put two McCain signs in my yard. A few days later I got a letter saying I couldn't have signs in my yard. I took them down at my wife's request, but his stayed up for another few weeks. Seemed like he didn't get the letter. I promptly put up four McCain signs.

Buy an old junker that will at least run. Paint it horrendous colors, Maybe even a swastika on it somewhere. Paint the tires pink. move it around occasionally. Put minimum coverage on it and tag it.

I worked for an HOA and lived in one. They did actually have a person whose job it was to find violations. They had a schedule for which neighborhoods to go to on a set rotation. Then do followups for other violations. As long as you follow the rules, which you agreed to when you bought the house it's not a big deal. If you can't live by the rules then don't buy one there. Doesn't sound like the HOA is the problem.

When I lived in one I got a couple violations. I was wrong so I paid them. I got one letter that wasn't a violation I fought it and won.

I don't feel sorry for anyone having HOA issues. They were in place whenm you bought the house and by doing so, you automatically agree to the covenants. Don't like it? Tough shit, move or don't buy!

My HOA is easy. Its a fairly nice neoghborhood so we naturally keep things up. But,m we have rules to monitor things.

I joined the Board and help run things here and I tell yua 99% of the letters you get are co$mplaints from your neighbors.

And to the OP, late is late, 1 day or 30. The $20 is fair and enforced straight across the board for everyone. Seems to m$e that you need to $ove ASAP as it appears you are in need of some place in tjhe country.

If you get a letter, chances are that complaint is AT LEAST 5 days old. So if you've taken care of the problem, ignore it...

And BTW, if that trailer in your driveway was in my neighborhood, I'd call the HOA too...

Funny update. Friday we got a letter in the mail saying that we will be getting new bigger recycling bins, so we need to all keep our trash cans either in our garage or beside our house. I had just redone by fence so I could keep my trash can beside my hosue, so I put it there. Saturday we got a notice from the HOA saying we need to move our trash can out of sight, and since we had it beside our house we needed to plant a bush or put up a fence in front of it.

All of my neighbors got the same letter since we all have our trash cans in sight. We've been all teasing each other since Saturday "um, excuse me, I can see your trash can, I'm reporting you."

All my neighbors are pissed. I did everything they wanted, moved all the toys into the back yard, mowed the grass, etc. The trash can is barely visible beside the house. It is not moving and I am not planing a bush there either.

Funny thing is that you really can't see the trash can at all since my Blazer is parked in front of it. The Blazer's plates expired in 2004 and they only complained about the trash can.

We are planning on moving as soon as we get the house fixed up and find some good land.

I acually moved because of my HOA. I have had nothing but problems with mine. They painted lines in front of homes for parking. I have 3 vehicles so 2 are in the garage and one gets parked in front of the home. Well I kept getting notices to move my car or I will get fined. So I moved my car to the pad leading to my garage. Well that wasn't good enough, when I am on call for work my vehicle is considered an emergency vehicle. So I park it in front of my house. I got 3 notices on that vehicle. I called up the manager of the HOA and told him if I see another orange notice on my truck, I was going to shove it up his ass. He said the spaces that were painted were for visitors only. He said that if he comes out and the truck is there, he will tow it, well upon further review of the covenants, its illegal to tow our vehicles from the HOA. So I called him back and told him to fuck himself. He wasn't very happy, but I mentioned to him that in our whole neighborhood, not one space was reserved for handicapped parking. He had no answer for that one. Not to mention the HOA dues were 145.00 every month. They were supposed to power wash twice a year...never happened, mow and mulch the common areas....never happened. I will never live where an HOA can tell you what you can and can't do with your own house that you are paying for.

Jfitz018 You might want to check with law enforcement and see if it is even legal for them to paint the lines on the road. One HOA I got several cars from one of the home owners found out that the roads were city property and not enforceable by the HOA. He was working on restoring a truck and bought a parts vehicle that the HOA kept fining him for putting in his driveway. IT was a complete truck. He put it out in the road and and they couldn't do a thing about it.

Some HOA's actually own the roadways in their community (them or the company who built the neighborhood), because for whatever reason the city/town doesn't want them or cant for some reason have them as city streets (common when the grade is too much for emergency service vehicles) or the neighborhood isn't in town limits. In these cases, the HOA is actually responsible for the upkeep of the road system in the neighborhood, INCLUDING repaving when the road needs it.

Sometimes you can go to your counties GIS website and actually see who owns the road. If its a selectable parcel, you can see who owns it. If its not selectable, its generally county or town owned.

Thanks for the info Warbeast, you are correct. I think they were just blowing smoke up my ass because the streets are owned by the city, and the HOA painted their own lines......hmmmm something for me to call about and stir the pudding. I don't live there anymore but I still own the house and rent it out. The city might want to know that someone else is painting parking lines on their street and doesn't have handicapped parking. I can't tell you how many times the HOA threatened to give me a parking ticket, and tow my vehicle.

Sounds like some PITA HOAs for you all. Ours is actually really good. We don't bother anyone. I think our Board gets about 1 complaint about every 6 months in a neighborhood of about 35 houses.

I have my tires sitting out in the driveway, nothing...
I have my trailer with burned up buggy sitting on it in the driveway for weeks, nothing...
Etc. etc. etc.
But, the issues aren't habitual with me or any other neighbors so we are pretty good. About the biggest issue we have is temporary POS "dog runs/pens" being put up and those ugly ass damn inflatable cheap above ground pools by a couple people. Other than that (and an occasional speeder), ours is good.

:D

Sorry you have a PITA HOA, but there are some good ones out there.

And BTW, the HOA isn't telling you what you can and can't do with your home/property, they are simply enforcing covenants that YOU already agreed to abide.

I agree with you partially. I did read the covenants when I bought the house, and I am fine with that, but the new rules they come up with on the fly, is not in writing in the covenants I originally agreed to. I don't know if that is illegal or not, but I have owned the home for about 8 years, and there are many things they say in HOA meeting that we need to do but have never signed an updated covenants and they do enforce those new laws. I am glad you have a cool HOA, makes life easier for sure. Its sad when I want to plant a Japanese Maple, or a Cherry Blossom in my yard, I have to get 5 neighbors signatures and approval from the HOA. I think that is extreme. Its not like I want to paint my house hunter orange, but the approval process is a hassle.

Oh this reminds me, here's a good one my HOA came up with....Anyone not voting will be counted as a YES  , even thought the covenants clearly state x % of the voting members. I don't think they are dumb on purpose...just dumb in general.

All of this is why I bought 16 acres with a house and shop with no hoa or restrictive covenants I have 11 assorted vehicles parked in a row 3 don't run. Sunday we shot assault rifles for 6hours some of it from the bed of a moving s10 and do you know how many different complaints I got 0.0 my closest neighbor is a preacher and says I've never bothered him even when we would play with a friends f e bigblock strait piped mud truck at 3am I guess my point is im way more of a redneck than I realized,I probly didnt pay much more for my house then most of y'all did so living in a hood is yalls choice I could never imagine buying a home in a subdivision after I rented a house in fayettville for a year I was miserable most of the time and most of neighbors where cool I never had any problems but I couldn't have any fun without legitimately bothering or endangering people

that hurt my head.

that hurt my head.
Is that in reference to my poor grammar.if so im typing on a phone its alot more work to be proper

The key with HOAs in my experience is just like working for a big company.
Study the rules.
Know the rules.
Use the rules to your advantage.
I am sure the rules will state a process for changing the by laws (by the way it is not easy or cheap/free to change as to be binding they have to be filed with the county) if the process hasn't been followed no matter what they vote on in a meeting the by-laws are not changed. There are also some HOA specific pieces of legislation that will protect your rights from an HOA.

We had one neighbor who liekd to throw ours around in evryone's face. He had a small piece o' crap pine tree that just freely grew right near the road edge. He didnt plant it, it was just a natural regen but he didnt take care of emoving it either. It was small maybe 5 ft. But he insisted on being a dick to everyone. I had a friend who owns a tree service write up an estimate for $3,200 and we placed it in his paperbox. Acnd said he had 7 days to respond or the HOA would hire the service and he would be responsible for the bill. FuU games like that can shit up power abusive egomaniacs.
