Well I got a little more done this week, not much. I've been working hard to clean the shop up for this weekend. This picture shows the wheelbase and ride height. Sorry I don't have more yet. I got a lot goin on with the shop.
Looks badass, really liking the way that cage turned out, the wheelbase looks perfect, gonna have great front approach, will it be running around this weekend at the shop?
Man I wish I had the funds for a "Mild" build like this.
Cj5's are known for having no leg room, so we decided to do a little massaging on the fender wells. I was able to make room to move the seats back an extra 6 inches or so if needed. I was also gonna leave the fuel tank under the drivers seat but the customer decided to go with one of the spun aluminum fuel cells in the back so when that comes in I'll shoot a few pics of that all mounted up..
Before
After.... Still got a little more grinding to do but you get the Idea.
Front suspension is complete. Hopefully the steering and driveshafts will be done this week. Sorry for the dark pictures. It's getting dark earlier and earlier now.
Originally the fuel tank was under the seat, and we were gonna leave it there. But we decided it would be a little more trick to move it to the back so we could lower the seats a little for head room. Well when you move the tank you now have a big hole in the side of the body that needs to be filled wher the filler neck was. So here's the fix for that.
chris, thanks for the link to this build. i love it! you push the envelope with your builds and it's awesome. the cub cadet yellow/orange is bad ass.
i saw this jeep a little while back during the open house marsfab had and man this thing is cool. i've been wanting to build an old cj5 for a while and this does not help that want. maybe when i get my yj "done" i will look for another project.
You have serious skill and an eye for the finished product. I thought my junk was mild LOL.
Now I am going to go home and load my rig up for the metal scrap yard and give all my tools away for Christmas since I will never be as cool as the floor sweepings in your shop.
To be honest I really don't know whats happening with it. I haven't heard anything out of the customer since it left my shop a few months ago. Which I guess is a good thing. He was going to have it painted and some more sheet metal work done before he really wheeled it. I'd be interested to see how it looks not too.
