Watch yourselves....Utah as of today has a 0.05 legal limit. One good beer can get you lightweights there.

What's ridiculous is the fact that people get behind the wheel with any type of intoxication at all, with distracted drivers and people driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs...it's a gamble every time you get on the road, we need all the help we can get to keep it as safe as possible

Do you drink? Have you ever drank? I dare say most folks that do could pass the same tests at .08 as they could at .05 or .00

The definition of intoxication isn’t describing Joe blow after 2 beers.

This.

Plus lack of sleep, or low blood sugar can delay response much much worse than a .05

And don't even get me started on using a cell phone to text, surf the web or play games while driving.

It’s an old documentary I watched years ago. They had one guy stay up for 24 hours and they had another get liquored up on vodka and orange juice. I forget what they got his blood alcohol level to, but they got him to DUI level. They put them both on this big video game driving simulator. The tired guy was way more dangerous. He was all over the place. The drunk guy didn’t do so bad. I understand there’s a ton of variables in that experiment, but it was still interesting.

I have drank and do drink, but never behind the wheel and as I said there are a lot of other people behind the wheel that are either intoxicated, distracted, overly tired or just shit drivers...so I think we should all take it seriously and do whatever we can to be the safest and most responsible drivers we can

You say help, I say "revenue"

This is just yet another way to generate more funding for government I/we don't need

All of that too. Distracted driving should be illegal. Piss poor driving regardless of cause should result in penalties on the spot.

Well according to this study, medical and peer reviewed, it's more like 3...or 5 in 3 hours....

Men - BAC Tables (Blood Alcohol Content Tables)
It's metabolism specific to isn't it? I also agree different people react and behave differently. I just wish that when a person did screw up by causing a vehicular inccident while intoxicated the penalties where much stiffer.
Kinda like crime in general is way lax. Folks would maybe consider more judgement prior too.
" this mess ain't worth it, I'm getting a cab"

I'm not going to get into a long debate on this one. You can find all the information you want to say whatever you want. But if I drank five beers in three to five hours I would either blow a .01 or .00 within twenty minutes of the last one.

With Uber and social media these days, there is no excuse for drunk driving. I could pound 4-5 beers in 2 hours and probably drive just fine, but the law would say I’m drunk. I got a DWI in 08’ and it cost me more than $10k. It ain’t worth it by any means, not to mention the fines have gone up since then, and I’d lose my job right off the bat.
No matter what the limit is, plan for a driver or just stay home. Is alcohol really that important to try and find that fine line? I’m all for a good time, but be sensible, plan ahead, or just do without for one night.

Seriously?

I truly hope you dont base your ability to drive after drinking on this nonsense.....

I'll second that. I had a 6 pack over the course of the past 2-3 hours and was treated to a roadside alkalyzer test (tail light was their excuse... & that particular town loved to pull over my Wrangler).. I had to have been close to .08 cause they tested 3x. They didn't tell me exactly what I blew and I didn't ask. That was about a decade ago.. but I'm right at 155 lb and fast metabolism so take it for what it's worth..

No clue where you got this info, but it is completely wrong........
Well, he IS the guy that would be the one administering the sobriety test should you be unlucky enough to pass his cruiser swerving.
He's likely had a class or two

Ok, so one last post on this. As I look back on what I posted I could have been clearer. But first, I am not advocating drinking and driving, I am trying to point out how much alcohol those numbers really are to the people saying you can drink two or three beers and blow .08. If you were 100 lbs, maybe.

At 155lbs you would be at a disadvantage purely for numbers. Less body mass to spread the alcohol across so x number of beers gives you a higher BrAC than someone that is 300 lbs.

As far as the three tests, I don't know without being there but two are required to make sure they didn't get mouth alcohol. Very good chance one of the tests was higher due to this. Also it sounds as if you did not get arrested so it must not have been too bad.

As far as the fast metabolism, that may help some but not enough to make much difference. It's not really fair but full blown alcoholics actually metabolize alcohol the fastest.

@Ron I actually like your chart you posted. Purely from a math point of view it's not entirely accurate but it is a fairly conservative and safe chart if people we're going to use it. It also seems to be for all weight ranges.

I have been in the controlled drinking exercises and know what .05 and .08 feels like. I also know that before I knew what my alcohol content was there is no way I would have driven at either level.

One last misconception. Even in NC you can be convicted of DWI below a .08, it is just much harder to prove so many LEO's don't try.

@77GreenMachine has the best idea. Just don't drink and drive at all, it's not worth it. Get a designated driver or Uber/taxi or just stay where you are.
