Mossy v2(022)

Opened the back of the slider boxes about an inch... no change in ride height, but should get a little more uptravel 🤫

Had a conflict for this weekends get together, so @Tater and hit decided to hit URE this weekend for the Veterans Ride.
Not much has changed, but some spots have gotten kinda enjoyable!
Saw many of you there (unfortunately, only recognized @Mulishajoe and @OlJeeps by face) and had a great time. Only pics I took all weekend 🤫

Had planned to take her down to a Memorial Ride benefiting a fallen Marine (Al-Anbar 2005) brother's scholarship/charity, but still haven't installed the replacement shifter cable and a requisite heat-sheild (to prevent a repeat melted cable)...
So, her annual bath, nut/bolt, will be coming soon 🤣

Managed a trip to town for the local "car show". Actually cruised home, after being chased away by biblical flood, at 55MPH... about 15 faster than pucker factor allowed previously.

OK, so it took 1.5 years 🤫, finally got the front-end squared away. Yanked everything from the knuckles out and replaced with new spindles, "rebuilt" Ford hubs (new Timkens/seals), full set of ECGS cromos/SuperJoints and some MM lockouts (Stop now! The white metal guts are *EXACTLY* the same as Warns, save the "Patent #" molded in, have the same "lifetime" warranty and were 50-65% LESS).

Also managed to swap and heavily heat shield the new shifter cable and swapped from cable to synthetic rope. Worked great when a buds (redonkulous spacer & Stickies clad) 9" sheared the lugstuds and was used to lift the entire ass end of his "buggy" 🤭

Working out an issue with belts (🤬 slipping/squalling) with new alt pulley & Gates belts (fingers crossed) before the upcoming Veterans Ride...

Well took months! Dropped the Jeep with local tranny guy early Jan... he called to say it was ready 6 weeks later. So, drove it the 19 miles home, only take a shat (was engaged, but no movement & fluid burnt) going up the hill to shop 🤬

Due to "technical issues" (double replacement rear pinion seal on the SuperDuty), finally got it back to him this past Sunday afternoon. Call me *thoroughly shocked*, but he called Wednesday to say it was ready, again... stating "mismatched parts pump parts" and "I should've caught it during reassembly".

He said it was all back to new again and "don't let it get away from you" 🤣 When pressed, he said the "shifts were immediate, so no chance of burning clutches". After the 19 miles back to the house, I concur... 1st>2nd is brutal and 2nd>3rd "very firm".

Hopefully, will be able to test it well before first wheeling trip. Time to work on the resulting exhaust leaks, a couple tweaks/upgrades, and whatever jumps out at me before the 1st (Blueridge Jeepfest benefitting a local teen with traumatic brain injury from vehicle accident caused by drunk illegal 4/20), 2nd (Cpl. Jonathan W. Bowling Memorial Ride 4/27), & 3rd (2024 Jeepster JAM @ the backside of Windrock 6/19-23) outings...20240314_195505.jpg

Where were we?
Made the first 2 events (Blueridge JeepFest = a bunch of duckheads, but several killer vintage Jeeps and the Bowling ride) and found a couple things needing attention...

#1 - Ignition switch (only 50+ y/o 🤫 ) has a deadspot in the "Run" position
#2 - Dimmer switch took a shat (jumper'd to get low beams if needed)

Both of those resolved with a call to PartsDude4x4 (specializes in plug & play replacements for classic/oddball Jeeps)... took longer to unbox than to get them switched out 🤣

#3 - She's getting warm at road speeds (45-55mph @ 3K rpms)... radiator was BNIB in 2002, no leaks, and did fine in front of the 304, but... it may be the 12* BTDC static timing?
Will await my BIL to assist as the AC bracket/compressor makes it impossible from the top = 1 person guns the light & adjust the dizzy, while I crawl underneath with an inspection mirror to actually see the timing marks 🙄

I absolutely love the the way you called out "BNIB 2002" :D ... Brand New... 22 FAWKIN years ago!!! This is how you know you're old when 2002 seems like yesterday and the part can still be considered "new...ish" :D

I hid all the ducks that ended up in the TJ from that event and will re-distribute them in someone’s rig at another event in the future. 🤣

Did the 23rd Annual Jeepster JAM at Windrocks a few weeks back.
Thursday we ran 15 to Little SchoolBus... no issues aside from slacked alternator belts squalling like a banshee (snugged them back at Half Moon and happy the winter repair held)...
Friday we ran backside trails... in between trails, hit a bump and everything shutoff. After a "prolonged stop" in the middle of the road baking in the fawkinh sun, finally found the "run" wire had jumped off the switch 🤬... then once back on the trail, 1 of the Chineseum MM hubs exploded. Fortunately, @uglyjeepoffroad had a slug, his daughters collected the "evidence" and we were off again...

The old girl took every trail and obstacle we threw at her... in some cases, walked where other larger built rigs struggled.

Take aways...
- time to get the Sniper tuned (even though it did well for 2 days)
- need to put my spare lockout guts IN THE JEEP and make the trek to @amcjeepman for a slug of my very own 🤓 (want to retain to MM "fuses")

Fast forwarding to last week(end?)... made the trek south to @amcjeepman 's for a slug (Thanks Again Brother!) and decided it was a good time to pull @uglyjeepoffroad 's loaner slug (Thanks Again Brother!)/install the replacement M-M "fuse".
Word to the wise, do NOT leave a slug in... for 2 months... open to the weather! We'll call it a tiny amount of trail debris + "humidity" caused it to "crust up" nicely...
Finally managed to thread the 2- 3/8" holes to 7/16"-14 and only took 2 baby taps for it to fall out 🤣
Worked well enough, I decided to (hopefully) future-proof my slug, so drilled a couple holes 1/4" and tapped 5/16"-18

And for what appears the best WIN... after the "run wire incident" 🤬, the Sniper handheld was all "No Data", so decided to reload the tune from laptop (the most common "fix"). The previous "Sniper woes" of stoopid idle/surging after 160* had returned at Windrock (had the IAC blocked off and simply used the "idle stop" 🤫) when the foam/Gorilla tape plug vanished. Anyways, noticed the Sniper still had the 2 "Fan" outputs enabled in the tune and my E-fan is manual, so turned them off and reload the tune to Sniper... amazingly, ZERO surge once warm/IAC holds the set idle +/- 25rpms !!
