On the street I used to live on, years ago there was a bar around the corner. Typically once a month or so, the drunks would race time trials around the block in their cars. It never failed that a number of times each year, the mailboxes in this one turn would get leveled from the racers. The guy that lived there, also happened to work for Duke. He brought home 2 telephone poles, buried them 5 ft deep and cut them off 5 ft out of the ground; nailed a board between the 2 and sat the mailboxes down on it. About 3 weeks later one of the drunks centered the pole and had to be airlifted out. They didn't race around the block anymore after that.

Today, he would have been sued or charged with some BS.

Usually civil trials have a jury. I sat on a civil for 2 weeks. Guy was suing IBM. It was nothing but smoke and mirrors and he didn't have a case once we analyzed the evidence. He lost.
