That's how I got my fiberglass ladder for the house. It was a 8 foot ladder someone used as a sawbuck and cut into one leg. I found it in the dumpster at a construction site one day. I cut all the legs to match and re-riveted the feet on and now I have a custom fiberglass 5.5ft ladder!I'm definitely stealing this idea!
I used to have a buddy that worked for a large construction outfit. I'd see him a couple times a year, and every time he'd have a half dozen 100' 12ga cords for me. All had nicks, cuts, bad ends, but with a little fix, worked fine, just not OK with OSHA. I used a lot of them for trading stock. Wish I still had that source.
