MOTD (Meme of the Day)

I dont do it at all.
But I watch my son and his friends...
You can spend all the money you want on it. I have the same wading jacket and shotgun I bought in highschool (approaching 20yrs) and am only on my third set of wader in that same 20yr period. Literally the only money I have spent on the sport in the last 3yrs has been shells. No 3-1/2" black cloud here either. Only Walmart federal or Winchester 2-3/4 and 3's. My neighbor on the other hand, he somehow manages to spend 5grand per season

That's how I look at deer hunting. Only thing I ever buy is scent killer and ammo components. Oh, and freezer bags!

That really made me think how I go about it. I have tons of rifles and glass…but specifically for deer hunting I still use my first rifle I purchased almost exclusively. Got it when I was 10 years old. Savage 110 270. Crappy Simmons 3-9, that’s really become a point of pride that I still use it. That combo was $400 25 years ago. Last season finished up the last of 4-5 boxes of Remington CorLokt that I bought in 96ish, and just swapped over to Hornady SST’s last year. I’m a ‘field hunter’…if I see it, I want to put it down. Because of that, I’m just wearing jeans, a t shirt and an orange vest/jacket…can’t remember the last time I wore/bought scent. I can’t remember the last time I went out and didn’t get a deer (or two). I understand different styles/preferences of hunting require different methods…but I’ve always been more of a believer in learning game trails, movement patterns and being quiet than buying the hottest new camo or reduced glare finishes. I figure if there were dudes stalking animals with rocks and sticks, I’m good reaching out and touching one at 3-400yds.

Yep. I use two guns primarily, depending on where I sit. My savage Axis II in 6.5CM for open areas and my old marlin 336 30-30 for brush hunting. I wear the same coveralls I got in HS, same old hunting coat, and hunt the same tract of land part of the time that I grew up on. Most Ive spent is I bought a bow this year, but I sold some stuff to get it and my net cost was $5! Really my biggest expense is gas because I like to hunt game lands for fun.

wouldn't this be nice
