I had that happen to me once many years ago, it was about 2 in the morning we were winter wheeling but it was raining might or might not have been any drink around (had added a gauge set as mentioned) was trying pull a buddy out of a hole, after several attempts i backed up ( hold my drink moment) dropped the clutch at about 4 grand, we hit the end on the slack in the strap so hard we came off the ground. Must have flexed the whole truck because the grommet on the firewall popped out, the alternator wire got knicked and shorted sparks were flying around underneath like lightning, and melted the oil line and started pumping hot oil everywhere, then there was a fire. I was able to yank the dash bezel off around the radio and jammed my jacket in there to smother the flames, then jump out and disconnect the battery. The next couple hours was wet and cold but, was able to crimp off the line and disconnect the alt wires to the gauges and head out. We did get him out but had one hell of a mess.
