It stormed like hell here early this morning. Woke me up about 3 am. Last I heard the death toll was seven. Two in Nashville and five in the surrounding area. I guess daylight has led to more discoveries :(

Big storms for sure. 23k currently without power (not to discount the death toll)

Hits close to home for me. My old house was the E in maynor place and burger up is destroyed in 5 points. I haven't seen pictures yet but I imagine my old college hang out, 3 crow bar, is likely gone as well. Im afraid the death toll will rise as the dust settles.

I get the feeling it will be more. Video of it rolling right across a dense part of town is heart wrenching.

My son and a college friend went to Nashville for spring break.
Last night around midnight he texted his girl ‘holy shit there is a tornado in the parking lot of the hotel’....then radio silence until after 10am...we were pretty freaked out and I was about to head to Nashville right before he called. He is unhurt but was literally feet from flipped cars.

Glad they are safe. Cant imagine that feeling

I found out about the tornados this AM at 5:30...texted and no reply. Called and voicemail. By about 7 the daughter was up..she found out about the GF text through snap/face/gram....and we were off to the races worrying.

What are they going to do now? Is their car damaged?

Man...crazy story, small miracles and such.
They went to a hockey game and got back to hotel late and there was limited parking. So they parked across the street and down a block. Where they parked there was zero damage, several cars in the lot they would have parked in were damaged.

They are on way home now, that was plan anyway - not cut short because of storm.

I realize it was a Huge Powerful Storm, but even the last tiny tornado warning, in my area, came across my cell phone! I don't have any weather apps, so it surprised me. I had the TV on anyway, & knew about it. I know they got hit late at night, but really surprised at the mounting death toll!

It was apparently a pop up storm.
Lane got the phone alert and that caused him to look outside, as they had only been in the hotel ~15 minutes and he said it was breezy but dry when they walked in. To hear him describe it ->phone went off, he walked to window and looked out and a funnel cloud was there and cars, trees and stuff were everywhere "worse than any movie I've ever saw."

And it definitely sounded like a train.

Glad he's safe.

Prayers for the folks affected.

Dude in tower crane during tornado, I can’t even imagine....

That's gotta feel more helpless than being a republican in California.

I haven't seen any Tower cranes, working at night. Their Electric, so when power goes out, so does it. They make great Lightning rods too! Operator Can climb down, but In a Tornado? Damned if you do, Or don't! Yikes!

Operator Can climb down
Depending on the stage, it can take 15-45 minutes to climb down from a crane. Hence why operators make upwards of $225k or more for that kinda risk/skill/brass balls
