NC Lift Laws ?

I maybe relocating to the NC area and was wondering about the lift laws. On one of your treads here it says 6" max lift including tires. Then another thread talks about a lady with a 12" lift and 40" tires? My Rubicon has a 5.5 lift and 33's with no BL and my Power Wagon has a 6" lift with a 3" BL and 38's.

How do you think I'll fair?

Thanks ahead of time.

don't worry about it!

there is a durango rolling around here with at least 40" of lift and 49" tires...its huge and stupid looking..

no one will pull you unless you are doin somethin illegal. my friend got pulled twice in 30 minutes in his 94 z-71 on 44's but it was because he was speeding. my friends dad who is a state trooper has a F-250 with 8" of lift for his daily driver. i have been pulled a few times but not because of my lift and tires and i am gettin ready to go bigger so you'll be straight.

they havent even given me a second glance.chevy HD 12" lift and 38's

The guy withthe Durango is in my Dodge Truck group he's rolling on 24+" of lift and 49" Iroks, the lift law is just on the books if a cop wants to be a pr--k

I had a 66 chevy with about 22" of lift and 44" boggers, I actually had some cops walk up to me in a parking lot to tell me how cool they thought it was. Another time I was going through a road block and the d___head coming from the opposite direction was saying to the cop, "there should be a law against that, that thing is just huge!!" And the cop replied, "nope, nothing illegal about that." You could walk in the DMV and ask them and they would not be able to tell you.

you'll fit right in, rarely are the lift laws enforced in NC. VA is a tad different though.
Maui to NC??? i'm not too sure i could do that

Thanks! I was sweating it! Here on the island I only pass inspection because I know someone and pay through the nose for the $16 inspection.

As far as living on Maui--------think Disneyland back streets, it ain't main street baby. My roof is made out of tin, the house looks like a storage unit and would sell for $3-400,000. Housing here has gone up 350% in 3 years, milk is 4-6 dollars a gallon, $200 DOLLARS A MONTH TO TURN LIGHTS ON AND IF IT'S 90 DEGREES AND 100% HUMIDITY ADD $400 A MONTH TO RUN A/C. Not all the time, just when you look like you have just walked out of a shower. I've been here 4 years and seen everything there is here too many times to count. The island is 8 miles by 15 miles with less than 20% being public access. Think close enough to zero camping/ off roading/ hunting/ no lakes/ no rivers/ etc. If you are a beach bum great.

My two son's are now on the East Coast in the Military, one in Florida at the Cape and the other guarding a nuke plant in Georgia for the Navy. My daughter will be attending college on the East Coast and we have distant relatives there. Plus I was born on the West Coast and have seen it all and if I ever see another illegal or Desert again it will be too soon.

NC and SC seems like a great central point for our kids to visit and the things where we would spend most of our off time with areas we would go to up north close enough for that on occasion.

So, how is NC and SC? is there reasons not to look there or would some areas around that general part of the east coast be better?

Any input would be great.

I love NC, and dont ever plan on moving away from it. But, I will tell you that in general most stuff is cheaper in SC, and vehicle inspection laws are a bit more slack, and they have good fireworks. Like I said before, I love NC and havent found anywhere else I like more.

I'm a transplant from Long Island, NY myself I love the weather here and housing is no where near as bad as the prices from a decent home in LI.

hehehe
well
Don't come to Raleigh, we got more than enough "legal" immigrants.
hehehe Actually that's pretty much everywhere in the US.
What are you looking for?
Mtns? Beach? (prolly not) good camping?
kind of all of the above?
City? Country? Middle of complete nowhere?

NC and SC both are nice areas to live. Personally I like the Central and Western part of the state. I live near Raleigh and might make it to the coast 3 times a year. Good hunting, fresh and salt water fishing~boating, pretty good wheeling although its a drive to the better spots from here. Fairly central though to all the good east coast spots, Crozet, Paragon, Callente (cant spell), Tellico, URE, Harlan and Jellico just to name the bigger ones. Everything from Mud to great big rocks, all within a 5~6 hour drive (from Raleigh anyway)

What kinda blows is the typical stuff, insurnace costs that are on the rise, NC has the highest gas tax on the east coast (coming from Hawai things will seem cheap, including your paycheck LOL) hurricanes and some wild weather to keep you on your toes. Supposedly we are going to get a sales tax and income tax break soon, I'll believe it when I see it. If you dislike Illegals I'd stay away from the Siler City area. :flipoff2:

A friend of mine has a 73 Chevy with roughly 22" of lift sitting on 44's. (rockers are taller than the tires, looks stupid and cool at the same time) Never been hassled and never had a problem getting it inspected. The 6" law is to keep all us assholes in line while we are riding around in them, adds another ticket to the collection if you drive like a asshole.

Somewhere in the statute vehicles made before a certain year(I think 1979) are exempt from this rule.

Nope.

Sounds like my kind of place.

My family goes all the way back to the Revolutionary war and we are all Southerners.

I am a conservative. I like most area but flatlands. Grew up in the mountains but I like to sail both on lakes and ocean. I'm not to experienced at it but enjoy it when I can. I used to fly with a friend on weekends but never have gotten my license. I have kayaks, one is setup for fishing/diving. I am both a commercial and Padi instructor diver. I grew up on a lake with good rivers near by. I also was active with the Big Bear trail riders club when I was in California and got a chance to ride with Kenny Roberts and had a one on one race with him coming out of the back counrty into Big Bear. So, when able I really enjoy doing dual sport events with my XR600.

And last but mostly I enjoy just getting out with friends/ Family in the back country camping using my Power Wagon or Ruby getting there. I'm really not into seeing how fast I can distroy them, but enjoy challanging terrain.

My wife is simple,if there is a saddle involved with a half spunky horse under it she is in Heaven. My Daughter is like me, Air/Sea/ or Land, if it's outdoors she's for it( Just became a Teenager).

So, what part of the NC/SC should we look at? I will be selling my tour business here on the island so I'm sure I'll be opening some kind of business where I move. And my wife is a Medical Office Administrator. How's business and employment out there? Basically whats great about the area and what's not. We had ALOT of misconceptions moving to Hawaii, like they HATE boats here! Go fiquire. That was a shock and seemed like a given there would be boating.
We are just trying to get as educated about the area and people as completely as possible this time. Our daughter will be entering High School next year and we want her to stay in the same school throughout.

The NC mountains are arguably the prettiest place on earth. I personally am quite fond of the area around Blowing Rock and Boone, NC, but the real estate is relatively high compared to the surrounding areas.

When you say expensive, what would the average 3 bedroom 2 bath house go for?

No idea. Probably still cheaper than Maui. Ive been looking for land, and surrounding areas are 5-6k/acre, whereas Blowing Rock is 10-30k/acre average, with extravagant extremes. You can try www.blowingrockrealty.com to get an idea.

Yep....don't recall the year though..197x something. A buddy of mine is a hiway patrol trooper and we were going through his state issued books on this stuff. We started looking for info on the exemption of state inspections and ran across the lift statute. I'll get up with him and get an exact year.
