If anyone in the Raleigh/Garner area happens to see the nice young African-American male that followed me around for 10-15 minutes in a late 90's to early 2000's silver 4dr sedan yelling "hello" and "how you doing?" (although with much more colorful[no pun intended] words), tell him hello back for me.

Turning from hwy 70 onto Timber Drive in Garner and the gentleman in question decides to stop in the free moving lane with no traffic coming in any direction, and his own lane to take anyway. After honking at him with no response I drive around him. He flips out and speeds to catch up to me with his brights on. Four lane road, no cars but us on it, he pulls 5 feet off my bumper, honking and screaming. I slow down to let him get around (four lane road he should have no problem with this) but he stays 5 feet off my bumper until a complete stop.

Oh great, an asshole! I start driving again, and keep it 5 miles an hour under the speed limit, and he stays behind me. Speed up, slow down, for 5 miles. I finally get in a left hand turn thinking he is going to go around me and go straight, but it is a red light and he is just pulling next to me to yell and cuss. I don't respond so he threatens to shoot me. (I see no gun, so not worried at this point)

Light turns green and he takes off straight, I think he's gone. 30 seconds later he's pulled beside me again (whiteoak going back to 70, another 4 lane road) still talking about shooting me. I turn around and jump back on timber going the other way, him still following, pulling up next to me. I turn on hwy 50 back toward 70 figuring if he's gonna keep following me I'll just drive up to Raleigh and the popo office. Get in the lane to turn onto 70 back toward Raleigh and he decides to go straight, he probably realized what I was doing. At this point I got his tags: ADA-6535

Now he may have been having a bad day and him getting passed for being an idiot set him off, but threatening to shoot me was uncalled for. If I had been carrying I could have felt that my life was threatened and taken measures. Luckily I was not having that bad a day and decided to let this misguided [insert adjective] go on living his welfare life that I support, all be it unwillingly, and as long as he did no real damage. If he hadn't threatened deadly force I would just be going to sleep right now, and not posting this.

Does it warrant going to the police? No, people say and do stupid stuff when they are stressed and pissed, I've been there too.

But it does need to be addressed. So if you see him, pass on my regards.

I would call and inform the cops personally

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was having a bad day. I mean a playa' with no girl on a Friday night.....

(I realize that I was without girl tonight too, but I am driving down to ATL tomorrow. She is down there to watch her BFF run a marathon or something tomorrow, we'll be partying tomorrow night. Oh, and someone has to earn that money Obama is giving him.)

My brother in law teaches CCW classes in Raleigh, PM me about it if you're interested.

Your word against his word. Police will do you no good. You do not need a ccw to carry in the NC. I carry mine 24/7 everywhere I go, you never know when the nut job next to you may be serious about the threat. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

It's tough to remember all your tools at the time, but a cell phone video of the threat may /may not have helped had you decided to call the cops. Or maybe call 911 while driving and tell them where you are.

Shooting someone in the face for being an idiot is really tempting, but probably gonna be hard to explain later.

Have had this happen to me before, except he followed me and my buddy into the mcdonalds parking lot, we parked and got out, casually, not realizing this moron thought following us and pulling a gun on us infront of a dozen witnesses was the brightest idea. Similar start, guy sitting at green light playing on his phone, we honk and go around, lol.

Anyway, so hes hanging out of his car pointing a gun, talking about how we had better learn to show some respect, my buddy said something smart and the guy got pissed off and stepped out of the car, and continued pointing the gun at us. Apparently during this time one of the people had called the police, because after maybe 1 or 2 minutes of this guy threatening us, the police arrive and arrested him. I believe he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon? even tho he didn't actually shoot us or anything, I guess pointing is considered.

Karma's a bitch, hell probably get gunned down by one of his homies for something equally as petty.

Probably a stolen tag or car. If anybody had sped to catch and hug my bumper w brights and screaming, I would have brake checked the shit out of them cause I don't really care about my truck that much. I have seen behavior like this before on the road w perps driving like maniacs, ususally w 2 or more would be, young thugs. I have to drive through crackville to get to the Southern Wake waste center and have had punks, obviously under 18, walking on or in the middle of the road towards and looking at my truck as if we're playing chicken or to stop me for some reason I don't care to find out and have had them slap the side of my truck twice as I drive on past at 5-10mph. I haven't seen that since last summer when I spoke to an officer speed trappin down the road a ways about this problem.

I do not need a ccw to carry in NC? Explain?

(short thread hijack sorry)

If your weapon is in plain sight, like sittin on your passenger seat, it is not concealled. Be sure to tell LEO you have it 1st thing if you are pulled for anything and he approaches your car. I like to put both hands on the steering wheel or on the door w my window open as I greet the LEO but hav'nt been pulled in a long while. I put mine under the seat or under a t-shirt on the seat, when I park my truck. Not sure about that being legal, but do'nt care either. It will not be concealed when i'm in the truck. I remember seeing lots of guys carrying sixguns in the mountains 30 yrs ago in town and you will see open carry alot out in the western US today.

I keep mine in my console, and if pulled get it out and lay it on the dash as I'm pulling over, then keep both hands on the wheel until after I bring it to their attention and make sure they are aware it is there. I've never had an issue and have had several opportunities for one. Only once did a trooper take it off my dash, unload it, and lay it on the roof, the rest just acknowledged that it was there and requested that I leave it there throughout the duration of the stop.

That said, I don't generally open carry when outside my vehicle.

Thanks guys, back to the thread.

also derailing here... verbal threats do not warrant the use of deadly force; your life has to be in iminent danger before the use of deadly force is justifiable - getting punched in the face doesnt even warrant the use of deadly force.

Sounds like the guy was hopped up and capable of allmost anything. A vehicle can be a deadly weapon also. A gun might have come in handy after the brake check, and subsequent crash while we exchanged insurance info and waited for the police. But i'm sure the wreck would have calmed this individual down and we would have laughed about it and become new friends while I thanked him for buying me a new used truck, assuming he did not flee the scene.

assuming the car was not stolen and he was insured

I already assumed that or a stolen tag and much sarcasm in my last reply. In hindsight as long as this lasted and miles traveled, a call to 911 may have allowed the Garner cops to pull this jackwagon and find out what his problem was. I'm not recommending doing what I said, but I know me and I know what I might have done like maybe telling him to "take your best shot" when he pulled beside me and threatened me. It's possible the guy was trying to carjack you when he stopped infront of you. I also think a stranger threatening to shoot you is a perfect time to show them you are armed and can defend yourself.

Recite this, " I felt that my life was threatened". The laws have drastically changed in OUR favor vs the criminals. Also someone doesnt have to have a "weapon" per se. They can beat you to death with their hands( if you cant fight obviously), hit you with a car/run you off the rd, stomp your head into a curb( yes a curb can become a weapon)....etc etc, i can go on and on. As i said, if you feel that you life is being legitimately threatened then use of deadly force is authorized....and if you are a good shot, think they will be qble to say otherwise??

freind of mine emptied his .357 into the car next to him going down I40 after having a broom stick pointed at him in a threatening manner. cops were called. he was handcuffed, questions were asked, and then let go. Was it a hassle, yes. Will the douche bag in the car point a broom stick and pretend its a shotgun any more, probably not.

I was told by LEO you cannot wait to see if they are bluffing or not, if the statement is made and you feel threatened take decisive action immediately!!
