FB has its uses but it isn't everybody's thing (saf-t scissors hates teh facetubes)... Like I said, nothing there should replace stuff that happens here, but if you use it, it's like a sticker for your FB page. :beer:
 
Probably be a good way to extend the 4x4 community and post events, workdays etc... and i bet you can tell a difference in the turnout.... facebook is a good way to spread the word
 
BTW, trailhugger, you might want to add other 4x4 groups to your pages favorites. yet another way to extend out. btw, add public Hardware.... we just added you :D (or do I have to twist your arm?)

They are using your friends as contacts to get money for you as if you are in trouble, broke down, and need your help to help your friend. They used the President of our RV club just a few days ago and he has over 3,000 members E-mail's. they sent out a "reply all" false e-mail for assistance his 45ft coach that lost the Allison trans and a lot of the members sent money trying to help him. It's pretty simple.
 
Technically, that's not identity theft. That's a phishing scam. Basically, they send you an email that looks like it's from Facebook saying there's some problem with your account, click here to fix it. When you click, you have to log in with your FB username and password. But you're not actually logging into Facebook. You just gave your username and password to the scammer. They then log into your account and mine it for any useful information (friends names, emails, etc) and then scam those people.

It's not unique to Facebook, this sort of thing could happen with your bank account credentials (leading eventually to real identity theft), or your NC4x4 account. The 'stranded friend' scam is as old as the exiled African prince scam, maybe older. Facebucket just makes it easier than ever to execute.

The takeaway is to never click on a link in an email, particularly for a site that needs login credentials. Type out the URL in the browser manually.
 
Not just saying something is wrong with your account. I have an email set up i use for random things (sign up here for weeklyupdates on the latest news, or to join asite) basically ihave not used it in over 5 years but randomly checking it i see bunch of "facebook" notifiction that look real. I know itis not because i use gmail for facebook and no email notification. With that said NEVER click a link in email. Go straight to the site if it is true you will see the info there.
