Didn't read all the other posts...but I've moved 5 times in 5 years for work. About the time I unpacked the last box, time to move again. If it's for work, I've had places pay $15k to move a 2500 sqf/ft house, where I didn't have to lift a finger packing or unpacking. Most places offer a smaller $5kish stipened...when that's the case I generally go with 2 men and a truck...the most they charged me for a cross state move was like $2500, but I packed and unpacked. If you're not getting any money, Uhaul is the way to go, for a 24' box truck, $49/day and .99/mile. When you reserve Uhaul, they'll even give you the option of buying supplies and recommendations to hire for packing/moving help ($50-150ish/hr). Most of the moving companies offer warehouse/storage rental for a few months. Beyond that, you can always do the packrat thing.
