Need advice on moving

Didn't read all the other posts...but I've moved 5 times in 5 years for work. About the time I unpacked the last box, time to move again. If it's for work, I've had places pay $15k to move a 2500 sqf/ft house, where I didn't have to lift a finger packing or unpacking. Most places offer a smaller $5kish stipened...when that's the case I generally go with 2 men and a truck...the most they charged me for a cross state move was like $2500, but I packed and unpacked. If you're not getting any money, Uhaul is the way to go, for a 24' box truck, $49/day and .99/mile. When you reserve Uhaul, they'll even give you the option of buying supplies and recommendations to hire for packing/moving help ($50-150ish/hr). Most of the moving companies offer warehouse/storage rental for a few months. Beyond that, you can always do the packrat thing.

Not sure. It all depends on the real estate market. I need to clear the house of excess "stuff" so I can help it sell.
That’s going to make it difficult to help you out if you’re not sure on how much space you need and for how long you need it for. Let me know what you come up with and I’ll see what I can do to help out. If @Jody Treadway and @Loganwayne will voucher for you you’re alright in my book.

Moving closer the the wimmens you bedded at the Evarts wedding I see. Classy move dude.

I wish someone had told us to rent when we did our 8 month stint in Raleigh. That would have saved us a metric pooh ton of money when we move back. Renting seems dumb to our generation, but until you KNOW what side of town you want to be on, it's a solid idea.

Sell the crap you haven't used or needed in years. Offer the good stuff to buddies for a deal and sleep well at night knowing I made a dollar off it.

I've got two that are parts trucks. I really want a set of waggy NT axles but couldn't find a set in the ratio I wanted to so I planned on keeping a pair for the Willys build. Both 360s, one's a 4 speed, the other 3 speed. Nothing spectacular.
Are those the same ones you had for sale last summer/fall??

I'm heading to East TN. Roughly Kinsport / Johnson City.
Might also look at Gray, its between Kport an JC,close to Jonesborough, and hwy 26/I-81.

As soon as you have time to grab some grub after the move you have to check out Ridgewood BBQ. Get the Pork BBQ sammich, Fries, and Baked Beans. You can thank me later.

And that's really the rub. How did anyone here make the transition from one house to the next? Do I just have to settle it in my kind that I'll be paying two mortgages until one house sells?

I'm sure you could find a renter faster than a buyer. And then they will pay one of your mortgages for you

You could even do rent to own and get out of LL responsibilities.

Edit. Just a suggestion to be researched. I don't know all the pros and cons

Last time I moved we found, we had found the place we wanted and decided to go ahead and make an offer. MY wife and I decided that we would cut back on other expenses so that we could make two house payments. In the end, we made two house payments for 3 months.

Where are you going to be working at, location wise? That could help decide where to live, although traffic isn't too bad around here compared to most larger cities. I can make the 20 mile drive to Kingsport in about 25 minutes and be in my office inside the plant in 30 minutes.

I would really consider renting your current crib until you know that you know that you know your move is a permanent one. Our situation was different, but we were all gung ho about our Raleigh move at the time. Upon the revelation that we needed to head back for the hills, the costs to do so started piling up. Our house here was under contract and blah, blah blah. Long story short, our move down, subsequent move back and the associated house sales, purchases, realtor fees, moving costs etc ended up costing us nearly $25k. That's a ton of dough.

But to answer one of your original questions, yes you have to accept the likelihood of 2 mortgages should you decide to sell and buy. Today's housing market is certainly a seller's market. Your crib will sell quickly and at a healthy profit if priced right. On the other hand, your potential home's seller is saying the same thing. We had 2 mortgages for about 7 months during our move. It sucked but it's part of the game too.

Feel free to call and chat about it buddy. Been there, done that and will help a friend through the same.

Just reading the thread for our upcoming move. But as to selling your house, the one we bought was on the market for 1 day nwhen we saw it, when we put our offer in it had been 5 days. Market is pretty crazy in my area. If you move after us, id be glad to store your trucks behind the shop. Theyd look good with my waggy

There's a realtor here (Lance Woodley) that advertises a guaranteed sold opportunity. You agree to a price (they say up to 90% of FMV) and timeline, and if it doesnt sell, he buys it. Not sure if theres something like that up your way, or if you could take the hit, but I could see where that would be better than paying 2 mortgages.

Other than that, I'm no help. The only time I've moved I threw all my shit on the car trailer and drove around the corner...

If covering 2 mortgages is going to be an issue, get a jump on it. Take this weekend and cleanup your house, and try to get it on the market asap. Yes, in this market, if it is priced right, it will sell fast. BUT, you can always put stipulations on the closing to give you time to move/relo.

You can also talk with the company you are going to. I know that most larger companies will work with housing if they really want someone. My company routinely will cover rent for a few months, pay realtor & moving costs, even buy/sell houses for ppl depending on what they are asking/looking for. All of that stuff can be written off so they cover more then you might think they would. Cant hurt to ask.

Took me about 3 months to sell each property. It's a royal pain in the ass even if you do find a good realtor, so much little stuff you don't even think about. And yes, I just paid both.
