Need help! 46" michelins on yota axles

The two tires probably weigh more than the axle itself. Can you even get gears in them low enough to spin a 46?

those 5.71 will probably break going over a curb with 46 inch tires but I guess it just depends on what you want to do with the truck you could turn them enough to go get your mail if you drove in low all the time

Need opinions on if they'll withstand that size tire. Will a 8" stock toyota axle hold up with 46" michelins?
Sell the tires and buy some better axles and some reasonable sized tires.

Do you plan to wheel it?
If so then no the axles wont hold.
If not then they will do fine on the street for a while.

30 spline long stuff

ha ha ha this thread is funny...

Either getting the 46s or 44 boggers or tsl. My yota has over 20" lift that's why I'm needing to go so big on tire size
With 20 inches of lift I hope you have addressed other issues first like pinion angles, and steering. And I hope your not running over a 3 inch body lift.
I have 5.71

You do understand that the lower the gear the less meat is on the pinion.A 5:71 pinion will be about as big around as a beenie weenie can.

39s are about as big as you can go on yota axles without breaking every time you mash the skinny petal. You can go bigger, but you better have spare shafts, thirds, hub gears, trunion bearings, knuckle studs, hubs for when you shear the hub studs......

I really doubt he is gonna wheel it.

I bet its fine for what he will be doing.

Big ass trucks WILL get you laid..specially at da beach. Chicks dont care if its got Samurai axles.

Cant blame a guy for trying to get some stank on his hanglow.

And to add some tech:

Those kinda girls will probably get something more than just stank on his hanglow.

I for one hope it doesn't go above about 20mph, ever!!! Not to jump on a cliched flaming busload of nuns and orphans analogy bandwagon but- All axle durability questions aside- This truck will be a liability waiting to happen. Yota axles do NOT have anywhere near sufficient brakes to handle 46" Michelins!!! (I would hate to see what his braking distance will be, LOL!) The axles themselves are not beefy enough to handle more than cruising the mall with 46" tires, and I shudder to think what all the 20" lift is comprised of if the only worry point is whether Yota axles will handle 46s!!!

My opinion: Drop it down (a LOT!!!) and throw some halfway reasonably sized tires on it, you'll have less $$$ involved and a better, safer, more capable truck as an end result!!!

And I caught hell with putting 60/14 under a xj running 44s on 8.5" lift.....

throw 6" of lift on it, cut the fenders and run 37-38s and have a good looking and reliable ride.....

yeah but he has a frame :D

That link @72Rockcruiser has some solid tech but realworld ive seen more broken 5.29s than 4.10s and most guys i know run 4.10s

Because of the setup. A factory 4.10 setup is usually better than most people will spend the time to get. Just like dude says.

My gear guy (A Lexus Certified Master Tech) has not had one of his setups fail in over 30 diffs he has set up. ALmost all were 5.29s with a few 4.88s. He has been doing them since 1998ish. Most of which were for me and my buddies who drive like idiots.

Since we disagree on this I now hate your face and we can no longer be friends.

Had long duscussions on this... Most stock 4.10 used diffs have been work hardened over 100k + miles. Most trail only rig don't break them in correctly hence the softer gears that break easly.

Yeah 5.29s are shit.
Thats why I ruined some ring gear teeth

FYI 5.29s with probably 5,000 all offroad miles...a few even saw mud puddles and maybe over a gravel road or two.

Yep that pinion sure snapped off clean
