Need Help! I'm new to Jeeps and 4x4's

Is the rear end in a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer the same as the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer? I know the 2002 has the Ford 8.8 but I haven't been able to find any definitive information whether the rear end in a 99 is the same.
