Need medical advise immediately! (object in my eye)

May still be in the old McPherson Hospital building on West Main St across street from Hall Wynn Funeral home and just east of Duke campus. They may also have satellite branch on Roxboro Road near the Cookout.

I think that's exactly where I went? satallite office on Roxboro Road. Now called NC Eye Ear Throat and Nose and Ass...:shaking: I went to the one next to Chic-fil-a but they have a partner hospital across the road next to cook-out that specializes in "cornea" in which they said I would probably be walked to but the doc was confident and so was I. :huggy: I'm glad I went when I did and wished I could have sooner but I was making good money and had to tough it out a couple of days. It made no difference besides no sleep. Just be sure not to rub it for it will tear some eyeball up from what I have read! I've had splinters in my eye that worked theirselves out by laying downward at night and letting the eye flush itself out along with the eyelids doing the gentle brushing. Worked that time but the wood dust wasn't impelled at 200 mph. Also common sense tells me the sticky crud that develops overnight (eye buggers across the eyelids) serves a purpose in grabbing the objects???
I have eyes that can detect a mouse's gender, Ears that can hear him fart and a Nose that can smell it from 20 yards. Things are a little blurry in the hurt eye but I feel a full recovery coming on.

We discussed that safety glasses only stops 80-90%. There are odds of a fragment bouncing in off the cheek, then glasses and in. You'd probably have to wear snorkling goggles to totally eliminate the possibilities...

OK, So, are you saying the Doctor got it out? Sure hope so! You can't make enough money, to replace your eyes!
NOW,,about that magnet,,,,,,,,,,,,,make sure it"s a BIG one, so you know it's working!!!

I've been through this quite a few times. I usually end up at the ER paying the 100$ copay for 30 mins worth of work.
The last time I was in for an object in my eye, the doctor remembered me from the previous visit and knew what I did for a living. He gave me some decent advice for when it happend again. He said to take one of my wifes long hairs and make a small loop in it, then drag the loop across my eyeball to catch the object and pull it out. This has worked for me many times now. Obviously this is not by any means the right way to take care of the problem especially if its metal because a rust cloud will form around it and have to be ground out. Another thing that seems to work well is the corner of a piece of toilet paper. Dab it on your eye and it'll lift it right out.

Not for long if you keep grinding w/o eye protection!
And i'm guessing you don't wear hearing protection either? You'll also lose that mouse-fart detection skill - and that won't come back!

That's why i wear tight wrap-around style safety glasses, and if I'm working close even also wear the riot-gear style face shield!
I used to work w/ MRI scanners and am quite paranoid about this.

Had this happen to me, couldn't sleep for 2 days because of the irritation. Went to the eye doctor, he got it out , but, I had waited to long, it had rusted around it. He had to polish my eye with a dremel looking tool. I liked to passed out, all I saw was gold and veins when he pressed into it. Don't wait!

Welp, back from Thanksgiving. After an eye injury I can say that the sun is very much amplified. But as of this morning, I'm pretty much back to normal... Before splashing roofing sealer in my other eye tonight.
As for the goggles, I only took them off for a minute between welding mask and using the drill but my luck is just that...
As for the ear protection, I have been in bands since I was 13 and have been to a many concerts. I can not boutch for the ear protection idea unless it's regular? Please continue the flaming for it's getting hilarious...
Don't run with scissors, you can always shoot your eye out kid and don't stretch your mouth for it will stay like that!!!

:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

FYI, a good trick to remove metal grindings or anything from your eye. Last time I got a metal shaving in my eye doctor pulled out a pack of matches from his pocket, tore one out and used the torn end to lightly drag across my eye. The torn fibers on the end of the match will catch debris. Painless and took him about 2 min. I have done it myself a couple of times since.

THIS.

My dad always said there are two things you never wait on getting taken care of, your eyes and your feet. I may beat upo my body for stuff, but if I ever have problems with my eyes or my feet I get to the doc. If you can't see or walk then you are in a bad situation.

They make pills for most of the other stuff.

Your dad is a wise man I have seen so many feet and legs amputated due to an infected toe nail.

He gave me some decent advice for when it happend again. He said to take one of my wifes long hairs and make a small loop in it, then drag the loop across my eyeball to catch the object and pull it out. This has worked for me many times now.

Close your eyes and spell your name with your eye ball it will work anything it its not stuck to the tear duct. FYI if you go to the ER you could end up with a nurse working the drill for the first time. In Mooresville there is an eye doc on call all night long but he works at a clinic and not the hospital. Usually if a specialist is on call 24-7 their number is available on their answering machine if you call their facility after hours. Must be very commen in my town not sure if this service is available in other towns.

How many people with feet and legs amputated due to an infected toe nail have you actually seen? Was that in healthy people or elderly/diabetic folks?

My last job was a wound tech in a long term end of life skilled nursing facility. I have seen alot of amputated legs mostly they were elderly with sugar issues. Diabetic ulcers are the leading cause of non-traumatic leg amputations in the US. I have seen non diabetic patients in this facility lose limbs due to pressure sores. However I am currently working in short term care in a rehabilitation facility and have seen amputations in younger healthier patients w/o being diabetic. Most recent was due to the infected toe becoming cynotic. Though my experiences in gerentology, home health, rehabilitation and during my hospital rotations I have seen and worked with alot of amputated people. Heart disease, PAD (Peripheral artery disease), high blood pressure (hypertension), foot deformities, Kidney disease involving hemodialysis, stroke patients, necrotic tissue, foot trauma do to neuropathy have all caused issues with circulation that have lead to amputation.

All of this was amusing and the OP was a great sport putting up w the flaming he expected, but losing partial or all vision in one or both eyes is nothing to laugh about. I don't think anyone would think it was funny for long if it happens to them. Be safe, if shat is getting in your eyes w safty glasses on, you need something else, goggles or whatever, a shard of metal at high speed could do real irrepairable damage.

A year or so ago I was using my 4 inch grinder and even though I was wearing safety glasses I felt something bounce off my cheek and hit my eye. I could actually see it in my eye with scared me pretty bad because I had this huge dark spot in my vision. I pulled out my contact and sure enough stuck right in the center of it was a big piece of metal. Maybe someone should invent safety contacts.

So....I was sittin around browsing some of my favorite websites, when I noticed my living room was on fire. I immediately started wondering what I should do....I mean a fire!...this could be serious. I guess I could call 911.....what was that damn number again?.....maybe my neighbors will be able to advise me......wait!....I know! I'll start a thread on NC4X4....I should get some good responses soon. Sure is getting warm in here.
