need some buggy vs truck advice or opinions

Im wanting to get some opinions on where i should go with my truck. Right now its your average toyota, junkyard leafs all around ifs hubs and ifs rear with 1.5 spacers all around full hydro drive flanges 4wheel disks spools 22r w56 stock duals 4.10s. My plan for a while has been interior cage, tubed dove nose front, weld the cab to the rocksilders, flat belly, propane, all new wiring, rear radiator.
Now the question burning in my brain is why not just build a buggy and get rid of the factory frame and cab (still gonna run toyota fender and grill) ide hate to do all that cage work to do a buggy a few years from now. Not sure if i wanna do links f&r yet but my plan in my head is 2x3 .125 main rails 1.5 .120 for the rest. Ive been around a few buggy builds so i have a good idea of whats involved and i have a jd2 bender, notchmaster welder probably every tool ill need.

Caged truck can keep you out of the cold and wet. A buggy generally has minimal sheet metal to worry about. But you know which way I went lol.
Actually your build kinda made me think buggy lately. I should still be able to keep my tag and insurance. My cab doesnt keep water out cause the windshield frame is bent at the top
 
Yeah me personally I like a buggy and I'm gonna have tags and insurance on my Sami as well. You know to pick up the groceries with lol.

caged truck and show buggies how to do it. and drive on the street
 
buggy=equals overgrown side by side. ironic to me a lot of buggy owners have down sized to the side by side. reasons, I think. cost. size to haul. mobility. storage. financeable. access to other areas. all things to consider with a big buggy, little buggy, or miniature industry supported store bought buggy (aka side by side)

truck= genuinely multi purpose when built right. limitations. build to take all things on or some street manners? unlimited destinations outside of orv use. a swiss army knife ( your buggy can't easily haul gear, multiple persons, food, pick up the kids, go to lowes, head to church, pull the boat and camper, go wheeling and then deal with real life.

truggy= any pickup or suv that has been built to a level that it can't deal with life outside of the trail without great sacrifices in performance and comfort (ie the above disrciption). The only thing a truggy shines at is a cab to keep you warm and dry, or cool if you keep the ac; and a frame to base all other extensions or added interpretations of your build their on.

In your case judging from the picks and the brief description you have a truggy. might as well go buggy. you'll only sacrifice less creature comfort, gain performance, and lose only a few remaining qualities left with having a pickup or truck based rig. I have a truggy too. I kick myself when I think I should have just built a buggy. Its sure doesn't do daily life very well anymore, and would excel if a few more tweeks were added. Thus nearing more buggy. I've learned my truggy was a band aid for what I really wanted. It's also a poor excuse for a well built multi purpose truck. People think just because its all tube, limited sheet metal opposed to some frame and a cab that it defines a clear line between truck and buggy. The end use and functionality is what defines them. Take PJ. He's built a fine example of a "street legal buggy" but it sure ain't no truck!

Ok maybe calling it a truck was off. It serves no purpose to me other than wheelin to me thats why i think a purpose built chasis with my running gear would be better. My plans for the cage didnt include a windshield and i have no heat or ac right now anyway. But your advice is pointing me towards buggy i just need to research link suspension
 
Sounds like a winter project, go buggy if you don't like to cruise town .
Mines a buggy and I still plan on cruising the town if the mood strikes be just like cruising in a convertible or on a bike. I think you should go buggy and be happy.
 
Yeah im definatley gonna cruise around town with it. Just weld the vin plate from my toyota to the chasis hahaha
 
if you are wanting to stay cheap and easy for now, build an ftoy type buggy using a factory toyota frame. This way you can do the tube work on the side without tearing down your rig. Then you can transfer all the parts over when your done, since they all fit right back in the toyota frame. If you decide to link it later, you can rework some tube if needed.
 
If you like your cab. Keep the cab, build the truck.
If you don't like the cab anymore, build a buggy!

I like my open Jeep. No cab, yet not too 'buggy'!
I think yours is considered a buggy haha maybe juggy. I really wanna get away from the toyota frame not having much rise. I think with what i do and wanna do a buggy is the way to go cheaper in the long run

Decided to build a buggy. Not set in stone but my plan is 3 link front 4 link rear airshocks in the rear maybe co in the front 26" belly width (gonna use 2x3 for the subframe) 50" wide at the shoulders around 54" total width 110" wheel base 22" belly height 1.5 Dom for the chassis gonna use my axles 22r on pane w56 and stock duals
 
I already have a 1.5 die and 120' of 1.5 .120

BTW...did you get the truck fixed after the Leornard's Farm ride?
Yeah I got a new brake line then went to the flats this weekend and broke an axle before lunch. I think I hurt the axle at Leonard on that trail through the ravine
 
I don't think 1.5 would be weak its not gonna be a v8 buggy on tons and 44s lol
