Need some help

Your 14 bolt will most likely have 3.73 or 4.10 gears, but could possibly have 4.56 gears. You are probably going to want to run 4.88, 5.13, or 5.38 gears with 37-40" tires on that XJ.

The most bang for the buck with the 14 bolt housing is just to grind/cut the big lip off the bottom so that the bottom of the housing is smooth. You can take it to the next level by actually cutting a large chunk off the bottom and having the ring gear turned down to use with one of those kits, but I'd skip that initially during your build and just grind the bottom smooth.

Most older Ford D60's that you are going to want are going to be either 3.55 or 4.10 gears. I'd weld the rear and run a lock right in the front unless you plan on driving it on the street regularly, then I would put a detroit in the rear. Upgrade the outer shafts to 35 spline units especially if running 40" tires.

You can buy cheap steel wheels from several places including 4wheelparts. If you go with 15" wheels, you will need to get a set with 2.5-2.75" back spacing to clear the brakes. You may still need to grind the calipers and mounting brackets some. Recentered H1 wheels are the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Frequently there are sets for sale on this site.

OK cool deal I don't even know if it will ever be on the street lol. What gear would be best for a 37-38 tire?

Yes he needs some better tires. He needs to air down more next time he had 25 psi in them
those tires won't be bad for URE!! get a locker for the rear and air down that thing will do great!!! The guy with me in the YJ had on-board air we coulda aired him up for the ride home!! Least you know for next time bro!!!

Yep that's good to know. Cause they actually didn't do bad at all. If he had a locker he could do it all no problem

Might be interested in the old 35 axle..... kind of looking for as spare for my YJ 35 rear.

Ok guys I have been thinking about some stuff. Ok I have the 14 bolt in the shop with 4:10s. I am going to have a budget of 3600 to do all this. I have looked a dana 60 is going to run me 500-1000 then gears and a locker another 500-600 then whatever it cost to go thru the axle. Then I will have to go thru the rear to. I will still have to buy all the little stuff and pay my cousin to do some work on it. Them tires and wheels will be anywhere from 800-1500. So what I am asking is I have no safety equipment in the jeep at all besides stock belts. Should I hold out on the big axles and do a cage seats and harnesses? Then just find a 8.8 for the rear and what would I want for the front? Then I could just run 35s. Does safety come first when yall do builds over anything?

I'd just save up a lil more money, no sense in doing it twice.

A cage, seats, and belts would be the direction I would go first. If you build a set of tons and go wheeling, you will be capable enough to get hurt in a roll.

That's what I was actually thinking. Cause I know me if I have something that's hard to break I will push it till it does. So the outcome will be that I will be hurt quicker. I think that's what I will focus on first. What kind of seats do y'all run? I have been looking at the mastercraft seats
