New car dealers...

We almost got the power lift hate when we bought our Durango. My wife can barely reach it when it's open, but she can reach and we weren't willing to dish out the extra dough.

I can never see a usefulness of leather seats in a truck. Do I need a back up camera? No, I use the mirrors and turn my head. Is there really a point to an electric sliding back glass? F no.......

As one of the guys tasked with working on all the bells and whistles for, as you put it, "candy ass" customers, it is a pain in the ass that so much stupid useless junk that people went without for DECADES is now considered "got-to-haves". I will admit, power folding mirrors are nice for pulling a truck between lift posts. Other than that, I have no practical use for some of the junk. 6 cd changer, not needed; Bluetooth, not needed; satellite radio, not needed; even power windows, NOT NEEDED! People cranked windows for 50 years and now you can't even get them. Base model XL trucks have standard power windows.....even construction workers are too damn lazy to crank a window. People have the audacity to wonder why the world is going to shit? It's because the majority of people in the world are too lazy or too busy texting to crank a window down. It "NEEDS" to go all the way down with one push......NO THE F*~K IT DOESN'T!

My wife better be happy I put gas in her car, keep it running, and come out at 10 o'clock at night in my damn pj's to rescue her on the side of the road when she forgot to get gas. If she wants bells and whistles, she can get the loan and pay it herself. If she wants to ride with me, she can ride in whatever I drive. If that isn't good enough, stay at home.
Rant over......

With all that said, to each there own and if bells and whistles are how you choose to spend your money, than that is your choice and I have no right or reason to say you shouldn't. It's one of the joys of living with the freedom of choice. Best of luck to you in your dealership woes.

Do you ride your horse to work? Do you chop your own wood as the primary heat in your house and do you cook food in a dutch oven in the same fireplace you use for heat? Still use candles as your primary light source? Did you use your 286 computer to respond to this thread? Not to bust balls but it's called technology evolution. When your wife calls from the side of the road because she forgot to put gas in her car, did she hike miles to find a pay phone or did she use one of them thar new fancy cellular phones. Did I ever think I'd be driving a truck with heated & cooled seats with a heated steering wheel. Hell no! Do I enjoy those extras when I use them? Damn straight I do! And if all these bells and whistles weren't on these vehicles, what would you work on? I assume you charge said customers to fix them when they go out.

I dealt with buying a new vehicle once.....Once.
I never have!!! And unless i hit the lotto, never will. I let someone else the the first beating on a new one!

I thought the same thing. But...

Seeing what 3 year old used diesels sell for now and the cost of a new one with rebates and a full warranty and 100% what I want, the used vehicle is actually more expensive if you consider depreciation and useful lifespan, etc.

Basically, $10k more for brand new than the 2012-2013 vehicles with 30k miles...
Do the math and it just makes sense. Doesn't seem like a major initial depreciation hit as one would think.

However, this low $ fuel costs may end and the value of low MPG vehicles may tank a little, but I bet the diesel truck market has little affect.

If your current gig doesn't work out , you'd make a helluva truck salesman.

I'm seeing the same thing in the economy car market. Well, the used car market in general has gone to shit. Craigslist overestimaters seem to have driven the average price of a used car up. Seems like "off-the-lot depreciation" is a fallacy now. Friends ask me about buying used vs. new, and a lot of times I lean towards new. Financing is easier, price isn't that much higher, and it eliminates a little risk. QC on vehicles now seems to be more hit-or-miss than any time since the 70s. I don't know if there is such a thing as a "reliable brand" anymore, so it's not a bad idea to buy a car with a fresh warranty. The old mentality of buying a used car so the bugs are worked out? I can't help but be suspicious that you're buying somebody else's problems. Car is going out of warranty and they still haven't fixed reoccurring problems, so they get out from under it. Few things suck like buying a used car and immediately having to put it in the shop.

People's value of used items in general seems skewed these days. I've been looking for a good deal on a set of used tires for my Yukon for months. It's a popular size, so people want a mint. I was seeing people asking 50% of new price for a tire that had 30% or less tread life. I finally said "screw it" and rolled into Discount Tire, told them what I wanted, and paid the man. Hopefully I won't have to play that game again for another 4 or 5 years.

I found that dealing on the phone has been a lot more beneficial. If they piss you hang up they will call back.

Last used car I bought the check engine light came on the next day. I chased issues for 6 months until I was physically ill from dealing with it. That's why I now have a new truck...

I found the guy that doesn't have to park in a deck every day.

Try living like my husband,no left arm ,neck an back screwed up to the point of not turning much. Loves some of the extras, just because now he can drive decently. Being independent means a lot to him. Has a friend with a right leg missing, driving a atv around the yard was so great to him. Some of those extras means independents to some. Yes a pain to fix I'll admit that.

While buying my wifes current ride...2015 Explorer Sport 3.5L Ecoboost AWD...we sat and negotiated and told them we would do it if they could meet our desired monthly payment. They couldn't so we left. Not 10 minutes after we get home they start texting...yes...texting. They eventually said they could do what we wanted so we drove back up there. When we show up the dealership manager that we had been working with says hey lets walk out here and take a look at it. It was in the cleaning bay where they prep cars for buyers. We walk up to what looks like the exact same ride we test drove...he opens a back door and says...theres only one difference...its got captains chairs. Well...fawk...that wouldn't be the vehicle we wanted would it?

Long story short...they hem hawed around for a while but eventually owned up to what they were doing and met our price on the one we wanted with the bench seat. We had to have it in order to carry our son in his seat and still be able to seat enough other people. Bait and switch...pain in my ass.

It's hard to get my $

You either have to have exactly what I want or be damn good looking. The latter of the 2 is usually trumped by my wife so nowadays if it's not exactly what I want. Well, no go. I'm sure I'm a salesman's nightmare.

I'm the guy to offer first, last and final $ on a property that has been on market less than 8 hours and give the seller 2 hours to decide.
