Can someone explain to me in idiot terms what they mean?

I read the law, but now I'm more confused.

I'm just going to lock myself in the closet until I figure this out.

They way I understand it is the family of the intruder/car jacker/bad guy that you shot (if you were in danger of bodily harm, sexual abuse or death) can't sue you in civil court. I think you no longer are required to "Flee" first as well.

mmm....hold that thought on parks. Winston Salem is inthe process of re assigning its parks as athletic fields so we cant carry.

IIRC, it also lifts the ban on carrying into public places that require admission.
Go read the articles about this on the Winston Salem Urinal ( Journal) .... the Mayor (and the Urinal) words it to make guns bad period.
The Mayor has also gone on record in interviews with very incorrect statements (lies ?) about the new laws.
He wants the police to guard the citizens , I guess ..... no offense to the leos, but been a lot of shooting in WS lately, and it's almost a guarantee none involved permit holders.

Matt

No longer required to flee first. Before you could not use deadly force to protect your truck, your property etc.....unless you were being in direct fear for your life and had nowhere else to retreat to (in favor of the criminal). Now you can shoot the sob if hes say breaking into your truck or stealing something off your property, or breaking into your home period. Now on the other stuff mentioned ill have to look into as i have not hears the rest until now

North Carolina Has New and Improved Gun Laws

House BillHB650wassigned into law by GovernorPerduethispast Friday giving gun owners in North Carolina some new and better gun laws. This bill improves the Castle Doctrine by switching the burden of proof in a self defense shooting from the shooter having to show just cause for his actions to the judicial authorities having to show why deadly force was not needed. Liability suits can not be filed against a gunowner now unless it was proven that he was in the wrong in a self defense situation. The Castle Doctrine now covers the home, automobile and the workplace. The duty to retreat in a self defense situation is no longer in effect.

CCW permit holders can now carry in state parks and limits have been placed on local governments banning CCW permit holders from carrying in local parks. Concealed carry is now legal in financial institutions unless otherwise posted by the business owner. These new laws go into effecton December1,2011.The State Legislature has promised to revisit the issue of carry in restaurants that serve alcohol and further issues in next years legislativesession. North Carolina gunowners should thank the State Legislature for these needed changesin gun laws!

That is not entirely accurate. You can protect yourself in the event of a car jacking, but you still cannot shoot just because he is walking out your front door with your blu ray player or backing out of your garage in your truck. Now if you were to stand behind said truck, demand that he stop, and he accelerates towards you, shoot to stop the threat, you are now in danger.

Memorize & practice this simple phrase... "I was in fear for my life"

Cause if your in MY house uninvited, coming or going... I'll assume you ain't selling Girl Scout cookies and there to cause bodily harm

Can someone post up a link with all the details. I can't believe I missed this & didn't even know it was happening. I'm a concealed carry permit holder & carry all I can. I guess theses 80 work weeks I have been having keeps me from staying up to date.

hmm...think i'll put a deer stand in my front yard and wait for my car to get broken into again.

Thanks guys!!!!!

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but does this now mean my work can't forbid me to have a weapon in my car at work or on my person?? I got the rest of it I think.

Establishments may still place signs noting no weapons allowed and you must follow those rules, therefore if the company has a no weapon policy, you must follow it.

^yep this. It was supposed to be addressed in this bill but was dropped. At the same time tho, it states that even at places you are not supposed to have a firearm, such as courthouses and places of education, if the weapon is secured in a locking enclosure affixed to said vehicle you are fine as long as said vehicle is locked when exiting. Is that an answer to your question...no not really, but it kind of sounds to me like you could technically if you had some means of locking console or one of those small handgun safes.

That was in the initial bill, but that part did not pass. Employees at places of education still may not keep their weapon in their cars as the parking lot is still the campus. But yes, most other restricted areas that you cannot carry into, you may leave it locked in your car.

Dead men can't argue if they were just trying to steal your blu-ray player...or trying to kill you :)

When our house got broken into ( no-one was hurt ) I asked the LEO "What if I were to have caught the guy and peppered him with my 12ga?" he said " Do what you have to, just make sure you were in fear of your life.". I can almost swear he winked at me when he said that last part. Of course like Caver Dave said if someone is in my house uninvited I don't really much care what they are there for I will protect my family at all cost.

Yeah I figure what they dont know dont hurt & the only way work could bust me for having it in the car is for me to get it out & if I am getting it out I got way bigger problems than their policy!! LOL

Yep. Just memorize these words: "That dead dude laying there was coming for me and I was in fear for my/my family's lives".

I want this .....
