New log bridge crossings on Dutch John trl.

Great work! If they need money to put in culverts why don't we do a fundraiser event there? I'm all for adding $5 to a day pass to go toward putting in things that will keep the trails open. How much $$$ do they need to do the culverts?

They are (FS) talking about eventually putting in colverts and getting rid of the log bridges all together. Of course thats when there is money in the budget.

Colverts would be ideal. It'd help with EPA issues as well. As much as I like crossing the creeks on the wooden bridges I'd rather keep my wheeling spots.

the pipe for a culvert wouldn't be to bad but i think installing it following EPA laws it is the costly part. hard to dig in a stream and not have sedimentation issues.

So you cannot set the culverts in the stream then back fill? Put rifraf on the slopes and be done then?

I would but I don't think they'd allow that. They might, every time I've seen a pipe laid in a running stream or any kind of work around a running stream it requires a series of rock waterbreak/ sediment traps though. Is there someone on here who does Grading work who may be familiar with it? Usually the diameter of the pipe would require it to be inset some. But on a trail you could just make it a little hill. if that makes sense.

There is a culvert on Dutch John past the log bridge. You take the hard immediate right after the log bridge and follow the trail. We cleaned this one out on the cleanup day. It was clogged and water was puddling. There is no rock or anything around it. It appears that it was laid and then back filled. There would need to be more thought put into the culvert systems since sedimentation seemed to have filled this one up.
