there was a pile of railroad ties by the house about 100 yards long, but CSX got rid of it. what they did to it, i have no idea. thats a great idea though, i would pay a couple bucks to play in the woods and rocks.

Maybe URE would donate the fence. You would just have to remove it! I know there is over 2000' of fence just waiting to be ripped down.

we need at least 200 ties there is 2000 ft that need to be fenced

I guess it would be too much trouble to use some of the smaller trees cut in lengths to start fencing...

Newton Farm supply on Hwy 10 sells the railroad ties, but I don't know what they go for. If you need some help with clearing the woods and such, let me know. I live in Newton and have a chain saw and a winch for help.

If you can get permission from CSX or NS, I know where there are several HUGE piles of RR ties...granted, they are in Raleigh, though...but I'm sure the NS line running beside 70 probably has a few piles up that way...

I just checked with Mark Hall from S10 Extremists. He's one of the guys who organizes their work weekends and such. baby_bowtie_@hotmail.com (I think that's his wife's email) He'd definitely know about any plans for those old fences, or could find out quick.

And yes, I think they ARE planning to get rid of a lot of the wood rail fencing, they've been putting in highway-type steel guardrails instead for a while now.
