I still like to hear it. It makes me feel good.

Yeah I get tired of the Vocal Gymnastics that some people insist on putting into the song too,but overall I am glad to hear it.Even sitting at home,I will get all patriotic and take my hat off while it's on.

I expect to hear it and it should always be played at games/events in the USA...

I think they need to keep having it, but only sang by someone who knows and has proved to know the song, like the little girls you do it so well

I wouldn't be against someone kind of making it "Their Own" and putting a little more Pop to it if they kept it respectful. Now if Kanye West gets to perform it and Stupids it all up,I wouldn't be into that. Also I would not be into T Pain getting involved and Auto Tuning his way through the whole thing, although I do chuckle every time I hear "On A Boat".

Ok I had to go check.Nope no T-Pain just this guy.

I always say, "Just sing the song!" No need to put your own touch on it. It's not a show or a contest. It's an honor to get to do it, not an opportunity for you to wow us with your talent. It's our National Anthem, JUST SING THE SONG! And if they did that it might be easier to remember the words than if they were thinking about the next big scream they were going to do.

I watched this little skanky tart sing for the first time just now. Or at least as much of it as I could stand. Let me first say that as someone who has done a lot of public singing it is very east to forget the words to a song you have sang a million times. The problem is when it is a song that everyone knows as well as the National Anthem it is very obvious. It doesn't take a lot to break your concentration.

With that being said. Her performance was nauseating especially for a "famous performer".

Should the song be sang at events. Absolutely. In this day we have given up so many traditions in the name of political correctness that we need to hold on to some. There is little enough pride in our country instilled in young people anymore.

Allowing someone to perform just because they have a big name is ridiculous. I would rather hear a toothless three year old sing the National Anthem any day of the week than that poptart.

One of the best "performances" I have ever heard in my life was a 97 year old black lady with one leg in a nursing home singing off key "What a Friend we have in Jesus". That song meant something to her.

For Miss Redlipstick. It was only another paycheck.

if its done right I dont mind hearing it. I just wanna reach through the tv and slap christina for making my ears hurt.

I agree JC! How about screening the performer when you ask them to sing the National Anthem! The person in charge needs to do their job! As far as changing the National Anthem.....think about what you are saying. Recently I was in a group of over 390 people, and to get it started we ALL stood and pledged allegiance to the American Flag! Talk about a touching moment. Be proud to be an American! Do some research and understand why we stand and face the flag with our hand over our heart! Rant Off!

i agree that Christina butchered the song.... theres video of the day before(practice) where she nailed it and sounded "ok" enough that they stopped her to save her voice....

but putting her against Whitney, thats just wrong....... :shaking:

Too many people taking their freedoms for granted these days.

In my own (narrowed minded) opinion, only those who've actively performed duties that stand to defend our liberties should be able to make decisions like this. I don't even care if you're a US citizen or not. If you've put your ass out there to be killed for the USA, you get a vote.

Anthem should remain unchanged dangit. I think it is unpatriotic to change it. Many folks have made sacrifices for years to protect it.

I think if you can't remember the words to the national anthem (especially at one of the biggest sporting events of the year) you should pick up trash on the interstate until you can remember. Then when you can prove that you remember the words you only have one more ton of trash to collect before you are released. Even third graders know the words...PITIFUL:flipoff2:

x2 Call me silly, but changing the song is like changing a prayer becasue it sounds better.

To start with, the song is the best national anthem of any country. By far! And should continue to thrive cause of the meaning.
I have to disagree with there only being one way to sing one of the most difficult sung songs ever written. This anthem hits every note. And Francis Scott never sang the song for it to be an original to begin with. Being a musician, I see it as a song that the ways it could be sung could go on forever. And I appreciate almost every way it has ever been sung. I'm just open like that and have an ear for originality. I think Christina put a "rock base" into the anthem that I've never heard. My brother-in-law made this exact same comment that I've read but he thinks the radio is broke if it's on anything but oldies country. He's a pretty boring dude. Besides, if it was sung the exact same every time, wouldn't it get boring?
I agree that it at least needs to be pleasing to the ear. But that fine line has been challenged alot on the air waves starting about the 80's and even more-so with every year.

For all of you that think this song is cut and dry to sing, you must not have a musical background...:shaking:
