Got this thing a couple months back, I’ve posted some issues here and there to get help from you guys along the way but figured I’d start me a little “build” thread on it. Nothing crazy for it yet, simple lift and tires and some bumpers. Hopefully in it’s near future an 8.8 and some regearing at the least. I’ll start it from the beginning and update as I go along, although after the lift goes on things will slow down for it as I’ve got other projects that need attention also, here’s how it looked the day I got it:

After looking it over found the fuel pump was barely rigged up to work with some questionable wiring, so changed it out so that I may plug into factory harness and have a working fuel gauge

After fixing a few other odds and ends it came time to address the exhaust which had major issues, I attempted the “clamp” route but still had leaks so had to take to a shop and have it welded up so that I may pass inspection....and at least sound a little better than the Jeep actually looked

Next I needed a way to read temp of motor, at first I installed a contraption that was very quickly brought to my attention by you guys how ineffective it was, and y’all were right haha, so I took the advice and drill and tapped the Tstat housing, now I can read the temp of engine. Also realized my electric fan was nonexistent (didn’t realize I had one from factory) but I found one and got it installed now it runs nice and cool

As of yesterday we started the lift install. I went with the rough country 4.5” lift, the $500 kit. The front was a pain in the ass to do, as I’ve always had an absolute fun time installing lift springs. Moved to the rear where we had an issue with the welded nut breaking loose for the shackle, that stopped us for the night and we plan on tackling that this afternoon and finishing up

Really dig the tittle. Something has to be said for a good driving Offroad doer of things.

Xj platforms are great for basic enjoyable wheelers. Miss the couple I've owned. Keep up the good work.

Thanks man, appreciate that. This is only my second XJ I’ve owned. My first being back in the day, high school years....so long ago.

Oh I guess I could add the bumper we built for the back of it as well, bought it off amazon for $150 shipped, everything came cut out as a template all we had to do is bend it then weld it all up. I personally think it was a pretty good deal and some satisfaction in actually welding it up, although I’ve never welded before, my dad helped a lot on this one

Do you jump out at stop lights to cover your license plate so the general public doesn't see it? Just wondering...

I do, mainly just to confuse the shit out of people.

Did manage to finish the lift though. Hope to get the wheels and tires installed tomorrow.

Got the front bumper in, sent to my dads since he has the welder, he just couldn’t wait on me to get over though and went ahead and pre bent everything and even tacked it up  Got a very very rough mock up of bumper, just to get an idea of what it’s gonna look like installed

I’ve gathered a few parts here lately to start doing some major changes to the Jeep. Picked up a HP Dana 44 (some assembly required) and a 9” from @adamk the 9” needs a pinion seal and an axel shaft seal, the 44, well it’s obvious what it needs, these won’t be going under the Jeep any time soon as I’m still gathering parts and such. Also, I haven’t done any build to this extent before so I’m learning as I go, I’m sure I’ll be asking questions and doing my fair share of research. It will be valuable information learned and I’m looking forward to it

Glad to see my old rear axle getting used!

Did you get the bumper kit from amazon?

Yep sure did, think it was like $140 for the rear and $160or70 for the front they don’t come with instructions on how to piece together buts basically a replica of the JCR bumper so I used their instructions

Yea I did the same thing

Very rough mock up of the 37’s I scored the other day, was pretty excited until I plowed a deer on the way home from getting them, separate thread about that but I’ll add the pics here as well
