whats everyones take on this situation? Government says if they do have any Nuclear weapons they don't have any missiles that will reach us, and the Gov has never lied to us before right??o_O Just wonder what the opinions are on here?

My concern is China. If NK does attack, will China condemn them or support them? We can probably destroy NK in a matter of days if China doesn't intervene. If they do it will be a real shit storm and could lead to a WW3 situation.

I dont think China can afford to intervene. China's major economic base is on exports to the US. If we declare war on China or they declare war on us, all trade stops. Their economy will take a major hit.
The only problem with this logic is we owe them so much money that they own us....

I say we put a hole in fat boy's head and let the country sort itself out.

While this sounds like a quick solution - the problem is that the NK state media is so heavily biased on anti-US propaganda, that all the people are already against us by default. Doing this would only make them hate us more and have an actual reason for it. Power vacuum + a country full of people that don't like you = bad juju.

i really don't see how it could get much worse. from the articles I read he had to kill a bunch of people when he came into power because there already was an uprising coming. The country is starving and eating their own. If anything it would buy us a couple months if not a few years.

... to do... what? Move in and set up a new government, before somebody equally or more crazy raises to power? Completely change the people's mindset about democracy and Western civ?
How well has that worked for us in the past?

As sad as it is for the people there, we can not, and should not be in the position of setting up governments.
The biggest lesson from Iraq is that you can't eliminate a leader and leave a power vacuum when the people have no clue how to rule themselves, you only get a worse situation.

My bet is NK will launch something, nuke or conventional, either at SK, or our ships off shore. Possibly one of the pacific islands, whatever is in range and has some US presence. Our/Obamas response will be to use anti-missile defenses to terminate that attack. Then, turn the other cheek. No retaliatory or counter-strike. If NK lauches again, turn the other cheek again. I don't think Obama has the balls to press the red button or the big red button.

If NK troops rush the border, Obama will let them, even if it means the loss of our 'canary' troops in the DMZ. If they push on into the south, then, and only then, he may be forced to action. Not because he chooses to, but becuase SK's other allies will start the fight, and will draw in the US for support. Then, it's another VN, too late.

If they launch on us, we better launch back.

So you would argue that Iraq is worse today, April 4th 2013 than it was 10 years ago under Sadam?

Worse situation or not at the end, if we go in and stomp Kim's head in at least we can clean house before we leave. I read NK has the largest stockpile of chemical weapons but then again... We've heard that before too?

"It only takes being wrong once, and I don't want to be the secretary of defense who was wrong once," Hagel told an audience at Washington's National Defense University.

really liked that quote!!

Yeah, most of them have been wrong hundreds of times.

i agree completely. I just say leave it alone. Stomp the ant hill and watch them run around trying to figure out what just happened.

My cousin is stationed in the Air Force in SK. He said the media us blowing it way out of context.

Over half of my company is there for that joint training, what I hear from them is nothing like what I see on the news.

Idk about worse, but its not a whole lot better, afghan is going to be the same way when we pull out.

Im on one of them and bout to head to another in a week. . .

My cousin is in china and my buddies girlfriend is there also both say that its just the media trying to make people scared and call auction to fight. Ive also heard that Obama is trying to get the us to declare war so he can stay president longer... saying missiles are being moved and what not is the build up he would need to do that and he still has some time to trick america into thinking there is a threat.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Obama is in office until 2016 unless he is impeached, and he cannot be reelected again due to term limit.

There is a provision for not changing the president during a time of war. If he could start a war, he could effectively remain in office until all US military in the conflict has ceased.

Didn't say that.
But it was definitely a worse situation months and even a few years afterwards, which is what was posed.
Are you ready to invest another 10 years and $trillions in another country again?

100 days to be exact. We have a plan to decimate NK in 100 days. and that was written using 1950s technology. I imagine the plan could be reworked and dramatically reduced.

Also, China would not defend NK. they have been looking to bring that land back into their hands. Im sure they are egging things on and empowering kim Jong in hopes that we do topple their gov't. China gets the US to do their dirty work, they gain all the land and resources.

Russia is the one we have to watch out for. remember in recent years the long range bombers being flown down our east coast, and the nuclear subs being parked in cuba? And the freighter carrying "questionable" loads.....strikingly resembling nuclear missiles to south america? All the fight they are putting up agaisnt our missle shields.

We are in sequester, have reduced our navy, have been winding down our war machine, are war weary (the american people have developed a weak stomach for war) and now we face a threat in the pacific ocean.

It would be a good time for russia to step in and bully the east coast.

we would be fighting a two front war again and are not equipped to handle this type of thing. Not saying they are gonna do anything.....just saying i bet they have a plan of action.

Also...i just watched Red Dawn. Kinda creepy to watch a movie...then turn on the news.....and see it there!
