Not pleased with my XJ

I took my Jeep out in the woods the other day to play around with it. I owned a 1995 Isuzu Trooper with the 3.2 V6 and 5-spd before I bought this Jeep. It was on stock street tires. I took the Jeep to the spot where I used to take my Trooper which is very mild wheeling and my Jeep acted like it was going to get stuck plenty of times in 4-lo. I used to cruise through that place in my trooper in 2wd. I was told stock for stock an XJ is the better wheeler but there's just no way my Jeep is better than my old Trooper. My Jeep runs/drives great and everything is in tact with my 4wd so why in the world will this thing not do good off road?

driver error?

Haha I knew that would come up. I'm actually a decent driver. I got some good practice when I had my Trooper. I just don't know what it is about this Jeep. I'm looking into buying a set of 31" BFG A/T's from a board member on here and I'm hoping that will help some.

they place has probably changed. holes got deeper, hills got more eroded and dug out, it seems like any place you go wheeling is always constantly changing....

If it's an older jeep, and has vac disconnect axles, are you sure it was even in 4wd, and not, basically, 2wd low

Upgrade the tires. That will be a start. There will be good and bad things w/ American vs Foreign. For instance, the trooper is top heavy and will flip on the dime, where as the jeep wont. How long you had the jeep for?

Better tires make a big difference on XJ's. I wish I could have gotten a Yota too, but needed a DD with safe room for a car seat.

True, and I've had it since October of last year.

I have a 90XJ and have been able to take it pleanty of difficult places. Daniel at URE and Radical Ravine at Gulches. I have 34" TSL on it. A good spotter is a huge plus. Mine are tops.....Cody, Paul, Jenn ...... You have to have a spotter you can trust.
