Hey guys I'm looking for a vehicle that would fit my wife for off-road. I am fairly knowledgeable on off road vehicles but at the same time I feel like you guys will know more options than I. I want to get her something like a Suzuki samurai or a Chevy tracker small wheelbase I want ro be able to put 33s on it without much effort and have it cheap and easy to work on also it has to be able to come with an auto trans. My wife wouldn't have fun if she had to learn how to use manual. Not looking to spend more than 2K on the vehicle

No dice on the Samurai unless it's been modified. They never came with power steering or auto trans. Trackers are hard to lift to clear 33s, but doable. Spacers and sawzall if you want to do it cheap. Good luck finding one in decent shape for under $2k, though. They've gone up in price over the years. Lots of people had the same idea you do

A stockish XJ with a little bigger tires is a good choice too. Wheelbase is a little longer, but will give her more confidence on steeper stuff.

An xj isn't a bad idea especially since I have a wrangler and it's very similar when working on it... Gonna keep looking I want to surprise her with it otherwise I wouldn't be able to get her one if she knew! Ha

Xj x6 or a 90ish Isuzu rodeo with 44 rear!? Hell a Zj is cheap and easy to lift also.

Another vote for XJ. Best is 97-99. Stay away from a Renix though

Don't want to high jack the thread, but I see your partial to 97-99. I'm going check out a 96 in a few days. I've heard some say it's a year to avoid. Any thoughts?
I just bought a 96 2dr 5spd for me and my daughter has a 01so even though I'm partial they are all similar. I will say the fuel pump assembly is a 1 year set up and hard to find for the 96 but I did ($220). The interior is a little nicer in the 97+ also but who cares for a trail rig. Another negotiation point will be the exhaust header, because it's cracked at the collector, probably due to bad motor mount.

@GotWood , I'm selling my xj...2500 for you with the new winch. I'm sure you've seen what it can do and most likely would handle everything and anything she would ever throw at it. I'm NOT trying to turn your thread into some bash trash so please don't go there. I'm just throwing it out there. It's a great jeep, ALL new except for the computer so reliability would be a Huge Plus for her!! just thought, if you have your opinions about the "thought", I'd rather not hear them thanks. Just tryin to help. (i'll even throw in my 16ft trailer for 2800 total ready to go anywhere, doesn't need anything!!
