Well, it is official! Bona fide even! I got my title from the great state of South Carolina so here we go....

The subject is a 1967 Nissan Patrol. It runs and is in pretty good shape considering its life. The plan is a Ford 302 with an NP435 transmission, a Ranger torque splitter, and a Dana 300 transfer case driving an Isuzu Trooper rear axle and a Dana 44 front axle (4.56 Gears). Originally, I was going to keep leafs at 4 corners but I an really considering a radius arm front suspension and a leaf rear. Running gear is planned to be 35x12.50xr15.

I don't really want them, but I would like to play with the trans and t-case for a week or two just for reference measurements and my own curiosity.

I might have a horn button for you too.

Sweet - I never knew of these until I was out of the US. Good luck with the build.

What is the transfer case in these? I'd be interested to see them as well.

Married case, 2.264:1 ratio with factory twin sticks. Transmission was a 3-speed and pretty much worthless. I don't think the trans has anything resembling a common pattern so I doubt anything is easily adaptable. It'd be interesting to get one on the bench and fondle it a bit though.

Mine has a 5-speed from Mark's 4wd in Australia. They made a custom cast housing and used nissan 1-ton internals, mated to the factory patrol t-case. The made somewhere around 20-25 of them in total in the 90's. I think I'm one of only 2 or 3 in the US.

I picked up a D300 case from Buddy_Holly which will be married to the NP435 via a Novak Adapter ($$) It has a 2.64 ratio which should be well suited to the 6.68 1st gear of the NP435.

I picked up a set of D44 axles from a Waggy with flat top knuckles. I need to disassemble them and send them out for drill / tap to accommodate the high steer arms

Holly crap B, those look great!!!! Thank you!

Just FYI, if you havent purchased the adapter yet, both the 4wd ford and dodge should have a factory adapter that allows a round 6bolt case to bolt up. The dodge 435 also had a 23spline output.

So does this mean that if we found a Dodge adapter do we need to also find the output shaft from a dodge NP435?

If you need 23 spline, yes. The novak kit looks to come with a short adapter and new tail shaft to swap in the trans. Looks like AA makes a 31spline input for the 300: 52-2910 : Dana 300 input shaft with 31 splines | Advance Adapters. The factory tcase adapter for the np435 to 203/205 should also be 6bolt round. Might need a thin clocking ring, but the d300 should bolt up.

Here is a dodge adapter: NEW PROCESS NP435 to NP208 CENTER MOUNTING ADAPTER CASE C-115134-1 off DODGE 4X4 | eBay.

Here is a ford/205: Ford Np435 To Np205 Adapter Transmission Transfer Case 16486 casting 1970-82 | eBay
This dana 21 adapter looks like it might work also, assuming the ID in the rear is enough: Ford Dana 21 Single Speed Transfer Case Intermediate Adapter Housing NP435 NP | eBay

Thanks man. I’ll have to go count the no435 output to see the current spline.

That's a lot of great info Ben. Thank you!

At the moment, I think the plan will change slightly. instead of the Gen1 trooper rear axle and the modified D44 front, I think I will use the full width Waggy front axle and a 2nd gen trooper rear axle. WMS to WMS should be around 62" which will allow for more wheel options and no wheel spacers. Also, the Patrol frame seems to be the same width as the trooper frame so It should make it easy to utilize the factory coil mounts on the axle and maybe even the LCA mounts on the axle as well.

Some a$$hole in a grey RAM 2500 took my motor, transmission, and transfer case (with my help)

Test fitting the Ranger box with bellhousing. Looks like it will be a nice fit once the 302 is connected to it

Keeping it manual looks like? BTW, is that a Goodyear Racing engine hoist?
Yes, it will be a manual. The Ranger box will be coupled to a Ford wide ratio NP435. With the 4.88 gears and the 2.64 in the T-case, it will have a crawl ratio of 85:1.

Yes that is Dylan's Goodyear Racing hoist. Using the racing hoist adds as much horsepower as 2 Honda stickers!

My birthday weekend was a huge success!! The 302 is in.... ish. it for sure fits but might need some minor "clearancing" to run it. I have headers on the way as well as some universal GM tranny mounts to be used for motor mounts. More to come on the mounting but here are some pics from the weekend. Also, while the monsoon passed, we were able to complete Rob's front axle!
