I've noticed a lot of people here have tattoos..

My question..

Out of the tattoos you have so far, where was the placement of the one that hurt the most?

My most painful was between my toes, followed by the inside of the foot..

Yours?

Top of my wrist... not bad. I actually was laughing during it because the tattooist had Sam Kinison playing. I have to go back some time and get the webbing put in since I had not decided if I wanted that or not when I first went.

Left side of my neck... not too bad except I kept tensing up because there I was with some guy putting his hands all over my neck. Kinda creeped me out.

Left shoulder... not bad... except the outline when he was right on my shoulder balde and my spine. I was laying on the table almost asleep because of the buzzing of the needle... then it hit my spine! That woke me up.

Next tattoo will be either on my lower left leg or my left pect. Not sure which yet.

Armpit....chest panel(around nipple)....they all suck to get, if they didn't more people would get them. The PA was the most fun, it really sucked.

the one on my back didn't bother me on my spine, it was the very edges of my shoulder blades that sucked. The rest of it didn't really hurt at all.

This is a simple matter of physiology.
It will hurt the most there you are closest to bone (e.g., feet, should blades, pelvis) and have a lot of nerves (pain receptors specifically). All of the above. PA good example of the "nerve" component too...

I'd imagine the worst would probably be underside of knuckles, or lips

^ that is true too, places close to bones generally do hurt a good amount more.
i know a few guys with the inside of their lips done though, from what they say it doesnt really hurt much.

the size of the needle also plays into things. if they are outlining they use a much smaller gauge needle and it hurts more. filling in they use a much wider needle and IMO it hurts a lot less.

The artist who did my ink told me the most painful place he's ever gotten tattooed was over his kidneys. And he's covered...everywhere.

Out of the ones that I have my most painful was on my upper chest, least painful is easily my calf ..... damn it now I want another

as far as the gauge of the needle that does not matter at the small size they are the difference between a liner and a shader mostly is how fast the needles are moving.most liners are 3 to 8 needles in a round setting and shaders mostly 7 to 14 needles and can be configured in a round or a flat or flat stacked called a magnum.also where you have fat at hurts more on the muscle hurts the least in my opinion and i know my wife is a tattoo artist

Yes when it starts tapping on bone is right there with near arm pit and nipple area. Of coarse anywhere near privates will hurt bad.
inside bottom lip and scalp.

no one else has ribs done?

i have my right side done, and ribs did hurt a little, but the bottom tip of the tattoo touched my hip bone, and thats alot worse than ribs
