Old URE Trail Maps

This thread seems to have gone from 'a hike in the woods to view old trails' to 'a hike in the woods to find a way to open a new trail'. It would be great to have new trails opened up at URE and I will volunteer to help in those matters, but regardless of that I would still like to wander around in the woods and view some of the old trails. Are there any rules about hiking in the forest? Obviously we are talking about not hiking on established 'hiking' trails, but since they allow hunting in the forest and the hunters are not walking on established hiking trails, I can only assume that it is OK to walk around in the woods. Is this correct?

I may go down there myself in a few weeks and walk around.

No updates yet. I have sent Deezul a PM not too long ago and haven't heard from him either. Talked with Janet last week and she said she will be talking with Deborah about the trail walks, and the work days and will keep me posted. So we will see.

Try this thread. I beilve the 28th of this month is still the plan.

^^^^ This is correct. Its 2 years later but we have finally gotten the ball rolling to at least hike the Gold Mine trail and possibly any trails in that vicinity. Just depends on how long it takes to hike the trails and collect data etc.

I will be posting about a separate project that will start in April to create a more complete map of the Forest that will include mapping all the old trails and road beds we can find. :driver:

Are you interested in hiking Sunday also? Can't make it that Saturday but I would be able that sunday.

I have to work Sunday, so I won't be able to make a 2nd hike that weekend. I would post up in the thread over in the Friends of Uwharrie section. There might be other people that can't make it Saturday that would be interested in a Sunday hike.
