On Clouds/Brooks/Hokas

I went to the fleet feet store in Raleigh last weekend and got the ole feets scanned. Dude sold me a set of Brooks and they're really comfortable. I was between those and a set of altras which i still haven't ruled out getting. Funny how this thread started when i was wanting to upgrade from my old wore out Asics that I've had through the years.
I wore Altras when I was trail running, The wide toe box was really comfy. I never blew out the corner of the shoe like I did with others.
It kinda hard finding 13 or 14 EE good quality shoes. Altras always worked well for me.

I started with Hokas a while back and the past few years have been nothing but Altras. That wider toe box is magic, but their quality seems to have dropped lately to where I tried to go back to Hoka, but this current pair just isn't as comfortable.
Trying some Topos today if the delivery guy shows up on time...

The only bad thing I have to say about them is the inside of the heel seems to wear out faster than other shoes I’ve had but I do take them off/on a lot without untying them.
I used to be terrible for this. One thing I learned from the guy at Alans Shoes in Taylorsville (been closed for probably 10 years) is its perfectly fine to do this if you use a shoe horn. I built a lamp table for the front door that has shoe storage built in. I also added a little slot for a long handle shoe horn. I use it every day.

I had some divedent $$$ at REI and tried On Clouds. Way too soft for my taste. They're comfortable but don't offer much support for long walks and such.
Or maybe I'm an ogre and should have stuck with Altras

Wont REI take back/exchange shoes if you dont like them?

FWIW when I was training for the 5k - and at near my heaviest I was running on concrete and asphalt and hell on shoes.
Went through about 3 pair a year.
I tried several different OnClouds...and actually grew to really like the cloud monster. But they've since changed (cheapened) them and they suck. They take some getting used to because the heel is so soft, Id rock back standing out of a chair. Then net was I developed some good improved ankle strength from them.

But of all the shoes I ran in, their soles shredded the fastest.

I honestly read this title and thought this was going to be a vaping thread

I read this title the first time and didn’t click in here because I saw “cloud” and what I thought was “hookah” and thought it was a thread about smoking and I don’t smoke
Well apparently I didn’t remember and thought the same
