On Clouds/Brooks/Hokas

I went to the fleet feet store in Raleigh last weekend and got the ole feets scanned. Dude sold me a set of Brooks and they're really comfortable. I was between those and a set of altras which i still haven't ruled out getting. Funny how this thread started when i was wanting to upgrade from my old wore out Asics that I've had through the years.
I wore Altras when I was trail running, The wide toe box was really comfy. I never blew out the corner of the shoe like I did with others.
It kinda hard finding 13 or 14 EE good quality shoes. Altras always worked well for me.

I started with Hokas a while back and the past few years have been nothing but Altras. That wider toe box is magic, but their quality seems to have dropped lately to where I tried to go back to Hoka, but this current pair just isn't as comfortable.
Trying some Topos today if the delivery guy shows up on time...

The only bad thing I have to say about them is the inside of the heel seems to wear out faster than other shoes I’ve had but I do take them off/on a lot without untying them.
I used to be terrible for this. One thing I learned from the guy at Alans Shoes in Taylorsville (been closed for probably 10 years) is its perfectly fine to do this if you use a shoe horn. I built a lamp table for the front door that has shoe storage built in. I also added a little slot for a long handle shoe horn. I use it every day.

I had some divedent $$$ at REI and tried On Clouds. Way too soft for my taste. They're comfortable but don't offer much support for long walks and such.
Or maybe I'm an ogre and should have stuck with Altras

Wont REI take back/exchange shoes if you dont like them?

FWIW when I was training for the 5k - and at near my heaviest I was running on concrete and asphalt and hell on shoes.
Went through about 3 pair a year.
I tried several different OnClouds...and actually grew to really like the cloud monster. But they've since changed (cheapened) them and they suck. They take some getting used to because the heel is so soft, Id rock back standing out of a chair. Then net was I developed some good improved ankle strength from them.

But of all the shoes I ran in, their soles shredded the fastest.

I honestly read this title and thought this was going to be a vaping thread

I read this title the first time and didn’t click in here because I saw “cloud” and what I thought was “hookah” and thought it was a thread about smoking and I don’t smoke
Well apparently I didn’t remember and thought the same

I went to the run store jus running on merrimon
They spec'd out a OC for me
Amazing to be in those shoes. I dont work in them, but when I do wear them my day just turns bliss

Finally went to a running store and got my foot measured. Ended up with Saucony XT900s. Also found out I have very high arches and just recently ran across this guide to tying shoes based on foot type

Haven't tried it yet, because everything is snow and ice right now, but will try it my next time out.

If you're over 50 go to Skechers. I thought that was the only other shoe besides dress shoes and New Balance the law allowed us to wear.
IMHO ... you can take every New Balance made and build a fire with them.
I have feet like a duck ... wide and flat.
Skechers and Cody James work cowboy boots are the only comfy things I have.

Are they worth the hype?

My wife wears On Clouds for work that her Doctor pays for and she likes them, but hers squeak like crazy. I have realized that I am on my feet either walking and standing to keep from sitting all the time and my feet are starting to feel it. This past Friday, I was out of work due to my lower back (much better now) but I'm not so sure not having the foot support I need in a shoe, isn't causing issues with my hips and back. So I want to invest in some nice shoes for work and for walking/running. I have flat feet and I tend to favor my left foot when standing and put most of my weight on it for the most part.

I am looking at the On Cloud Cloud tilt. Of course I want something that looks good ( I know this might be up for debate), but also lightweight and comfortable.
I went with ALTRA loan peak, and added higher arch insoles, as they have a wider toe box..

Very high arches are a sign that you may have a neuropathy. That was my indicator to the doc. Wouldn't hurt to look into it.
